Summary

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided directly follows the aftermath of the Aug Incident, a day when mechanically augmented citizens all over the world were stripped of control over their minds and bodies, resulting in the deaths of millions of innocents. The year is now 2029, and the golden era of augmentations is over. Mechanically augmented humans have been deemed outcasts and segregated from the rest of society. Crime and acts of terror serve as a thin veil to cover up an overarching conspiracy aimed at controlling the future of mankind…

Mankind Divided, sequel to Human Revolution, is the latest in a series of immersive sims. Its gameplay is fantastic, giving you freedom to play in a number of different styles depending on which cybernetic enhancements you end up choosing. Do you seen Adam Jensen as more of a stealthy hacker or of a guns blazing terminator? The game leaves that choice to you. Prague, serving as the hub world of the game, is as good as a playground as it can get for those choices. The city is dense and full of secrets and areas to explore. There's plenty of things to find and sidequests to discover, sidequests that I found were the best stories told in the game. From murder mysteries to cults, the sidequests offer an intriguing dive into the Croatian capital as it exists in the world of Deus Ex. The main story is less interesting , it has some highs, but for the most part is bogged down by uninteresting antagonists and a flimsy theme of anti augmented human sentiment that would have been better off not trying to serve as a racism allegory. It isn't awful, but I would not call it a selling point, those belong to the game's stellar gameplay, world, and sidequests.

It may be time for a replay on this, it's been several years since I played this at launch.

But I remember it being a good game and fine experience, if lacking compared to Human Revolution (which itself had its own share of flaws).
