Summary

Assassin's Creed is a non-linear action-adventure video game, during which the player controls a 12th-century Levantine Assassin named Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad during the Third Crusade, whose life is experienced through the Animus by his 21st century descendant, Desmond Miles.

Good story, but very similar missions

The parkour is really not the greatest here and is very finnicky, and you can get caught on walls really easily, completely ruining the flow of traversal. Very tedious and repetitive missions here and enemy spawn and recognition rates makes it almost unplayable in the last act when they're basically everywhere and instantly all target you the moment you do anything but walk at the pace of a snail. If you're thinking of playing all the other assassins creeds play this one just to appreciate the other ones as well as getting the overall lore, but for a 1 time experience go to some other assassins creeds. Literally the only reason to play this is for the story which has really good writing and character development, but is unfortunately coated in absolute garbage gameplay and a very greyscaled world that is just so muddy and ugly to look at

Definitely the worst game from the Assassin's Creed universe. The plot is quite okay (apart from the animus, because I hate every part of it in all assassins creed games). Fighting and movement are also the worst of all the parts. I can't count how many times I cursed because of Desmond's wooden animations and instead of gliding elegantly over the roofs, he fell like an idiot onto the street... 7/10
If I had played it at launch, the score would probably have been higher, but currently the first Assassin is quite poor.

I picked this up when I just got into gaming a year ago because Assasin's Creed is one of those franchises everyone has heard about before. The sheer success of this franchise meant I wanted to check it out, and not knowing where else to start I started with the very first entry of course.

This game has aged significantly. I played this in far-between intervals with my will to finish this waning more after each attempt. The missions are repetitive, they're copy/paste. Even the locations visited are very copy/paste. This game definitely feels like a tech demo, as someone else said.

I tried to get through it for the apparently good story I've heard people talk about but I couldn't focus on it with gameplay so boring and tedious that I only picked the game up every few months.

I've now finally let go of the idea of finishing this. It isn't worth it. I'm sure it was great for its time, but it isn't anymore and that's okay.

This is impressively bad for a game that kicked off a franchise. I understand it's probably aged poorly but there's just so many problems that run so deep, fundamentally broken to the core, from the writing to the gameplay to the mission design to combat encounter philosophy. It's not the worst game out there but it's really not worth the time.
