Isaac Clarke returns, joined by merciless soldier John Carver, to chase a risky plan that promises to finally stop the Necromorphs. Together Clarke and Carver must explore the frozen planet of Tau Volantis and track down the secret they hope will end the Necromorph plague forever, all while overcoming avalanches, treacherous ice-climbs, and the violent wilderness. Facing deadlier evolved enemies and brutal elements, the unlikely pair must work together to save mankind from the impending apocalypse. Fighting alongside a co-op partner changes the way you play the game. While playing the co-op version of Dead Space 3’s campaign, you will uncover additional story elements, cut-scenes, and battle strategies that are exclusive to this mode. Play how you want - immerse yourself in the classic single-player campaign with Isaac Clarke, then discover how the story evolves when a co-op partner is present in your campaign. Team up with a partner as Isaac Clarke or John Carver and take down the terror together. Facing deadlier evolved enemies and the brutal elements, the unlikely pair will work together to build weapons, overcome the harsh environment, and save mankind from the impending apocalypse. Create your weapon piece by piece. With thousands of possible combinations you can create the perfect weapon to take down the Necromorph plague. Using a multitude of parts, build the ultimate tool and the very best will be featured in Dead Space 3. Craft and share as many different weapon variations as you want.

Dead Space 3 is a disappointing finale that, for an unknown reason, tried hard to reinvent itself, with all changes ending up being mostly steps backward.

Visually, the game is an improvement; the character models and overall graphical fidelity are the best in the trilogy. The main theme this time around is a snow-covered environment, and it is done quite well; the new outfits specifically look amazing. Played it on PS3, and just like the previous entry, it's optimized surprisingly well considering the visual fidelity it provides.

Narrative-wise, Dead Space 3 seems to be just a standard thriller that in itself is unnecessary, but the new Marker lore it provides is rather compelling, especially the introduction of The Brethren Moons—a horrifying concept that finally explains what the point of convergence event is and why the space is so...dead. It provides the context we lacked throughout the first two games, and I guess some would say, "Being in the dark is more compelling than knowing all," but I believe for this series this lore just makes the concept of the Marker itself much more horrifying than it already was. Besides the lore, the story itself is just ok; the new cast is disposable, and the old one, I guess, keeps up the old pace, although not as interesting as before. It also ends on a cliffhanger, and the real ending is in a DLC, which is "fun" (but I have to admit the ending of the DLC is kind of cool, but in a funny way it is a cliffhanger yet again).

Gameplay-wise, it's a mess. The game reuses mechanics of the previous entry, and by themselves they are solid, but everything new and the changes made to old systems are just plain bad. The new crafting mechanic is unnecessary and makes combat easy quite quickly; all weapons using the same ammo type is dumb; and co-op focus is, personally to me, a disappointment that strips away horror for the sake of more action—which is exactly what happens here. It's not a horror anymore, just a thriller with monsters to fight, and for some reason also a cover shooter with human enemies? Set pieces are back, and some are fairly decent, but overall less memorable this time around. You will be surprised by this fun fact—they introduced microtransactions, pay to get better weapons, pay to have a robot find parts for you faster and more efficiently...what are we doing? Come on now.

The only good thing I can point out is the early game, during which you can freely explore an abandoned space station, which is easily the best part of the game, and I am not surprised that DS4 was planned to have this be the main focus. Also, I heard that co-op sometimes tricks you with hallucinations your co-op partner doesn't see; that's kind of cool, but I played the game alone, so I can't say anything about this.

To sum up, Dead Space 3 is disappointing, not actually that bad, but comparing it to the previous two entries, it's just sad to see what EA did to this franchise. Hoping to see a proper sequel someday, but I wouldn't hold my breath for that after EA abandoned the series again after the remake "underperformed."

SPACE DEAD

Weapon crafting system
Are you serious DEADSPACE ?
Where's the original RIPPER.
The Difficulty is so funny that it doesn't even work with the level design.
I guess this game was meant to be Co-op only.
Backtracking from elevators to ladders is just a headache,is this metroidvania.
Long repetitive action game with uninteresting plot.
Developing SCI-FI masterpieces to this action shooter with no potential of being a survival horror is a big single mistake that can kill the whole franchise and that's exactly what happened.

I see what is problem this game. Very discunfusing crafting system, but I don't care. This is monumental Hollywood's action horror shooter.

Dead Space and campaign co-op is like pizza with pineapple on it. I love pizza, I like pineapple, but the two together just doesn’t make sense.

It was such a good game. The only two downsides are that the game is too long and I wish it didn’t have the co-op feature to get collectibles. It feels forced. Nonetheless, it’s amusing and lore-wise except for the love triangle drama.
