Ratchet & Clank

A game i wanted to play since i was young, now i got the opportunity and it didn't fail to impress me, i wish i played it back then but I didn't get the chance to, a 9/10 that is fun from the start till finish

Ratchet and clank games are known for 2 things. Their action and character. Being a reimagining of the original game, it takes the fun combat of the original and mixes it with the combat and upgrade system of the ps3 entries while adding even more to it, making it as fun as ever at the time the game came out. But in return for the incredible combat, the game loses a bit of what made previous entries in the series feel extra special and memorable, it's identity. Not only does it not have the aura all other games surround it, but by altering the story and character arcs of the original, it losses that side of its personality as well. This games gameplay is as fun and exciting as ever, never getting boring with an upgrade system making you want to go out of your way and fight to see the next variation of the weapon, but months after completing it, it won't stick with you like the originals will. Beyond fun while playing, but not something that will stick with you forever like other rnc games

I'm not as big of a fan of this series as everybody else is I guess. I think they are fun & I have a great time playing them but they are so forgettable when I'm done. This one was basically a movie tie in so yes, it felt extremely messy at times with its story. I enjoyed some of the levels & the designs that go with them but once again, easily forgettable.

Final verdict: Wait for a sale

A rather disappointing remake that barely does anything better than the original besides visuals.

They are going for more of a "Pixar" style, which of course is visually appealing, but at the same time made the game lose all its style, sauce if you mind.

Characters became much more dull; Ratchet went from a sassy mechanic who could talk back to anyone disrespecting him to your average boring "I always wanted to be a hero!" archetype, with his relationship with Clank becoming as deep as a puddle. Some story beats feel like they got cut away too abruptly, which is actually the case, and more context is present in the failed movie they did.

The saving grace is of course the gameplay, it's a modern rendition of the gameplay loop I rather enjoy. Weapons feel great to use and shoot, but I dislike how enemies tend to react to getting hurt with just one pre-scripted animation, which makes it hard to tell how much health they got left, which makes melee combat less responsive and not satisfying to land hits. It's like they are sprites than physical models.

Overall the most mediocre game Insomniac has put out in a while, it will probably go much better for you if you are unaware of or did not play the original, but in that case this is a rather bad pick to have as your first R&C entry.

Man my hands hurt after the final 2 battles. They were brutal. I am happy though. Some cool weapons: Groovibomb, Mr Zurkon and Pixelizer made me chuckle every time I used them. Hoverboard races were fun but a bit too easy, managed to get all medals on first try. Overall enjoyed the game and will definitely try other entries in the series.

Death by Disco was the death of me
