While the melee combat feels really clunky, it's clear that the ranged combat is the focus of the game and that's where it really shines. It was always thrilling utilizing all of these cool and unique ranged weapons against these really well designed robots, and it was always fun strategizing with those tools.
Loved the setting, I thought the overall game world was made exceptionally well. The game looks beautiful, and it was really cool seeing all these robots have their own habitats across some nice areas in the map.
The story felt like a decent mcu movie. I liked it, pretty fun and liked the plot twists.
However, the clunky and awkward facial animations would always take me out of the immersion and I often found it difficult to take many of the in game conversations seriously.
Climbing sometimes felt off, which could get in the way of the exploration in the game.
Everything else felt like something I had seen before in every other open world game, which I'd say is my biggest issue. Generic sidequests, generic menu UI, generic resource gathering, etc.
Personally it wasn't my cup of tea and I think it didn't go far enough to make these separate factors unique enough to help Horizon stand out from other open world games. I've been trying to finish this game for like 3 years, and I'd say the biggest reason would be that this game has often made me feel the open world exhaustion more than any other.
Other than that tho, it's a solid experience and competently made. If you like open world games make sure to at least get through the starting area so you can really see where the game really shines with its ranged combat.
