Just replayed this in preparation for Ragnarok. As a fan of the franchise who grew up with all the games on release date (admittedly at an age I shouldn't have), I've always had mixed feelings about GOW 2018. I know objectively this is the best game in the franchise, the best Kratos, the best story however as a fan it took me a while to adjust to this new style. Funnily enough, that is the big theme of this game. Moving on from the past, and accepting the future. When I first picked this game up, I kinda felt betrayed as a fan. The gameplay was slow and stiff. For some reason they put an over the shoulder camera in an action game. There was no mention of Kratos' past, almost as if Sony/Santa Monica didn't care about that and wanted us to forget to appeal to new fans... And then THAT moment came. I wouldn't spoilt it, but if you know THAT moment, it change my whole perspective of this game. In fact, it made me realise that this game was made for the fans more than anyone else. I started to accept what they were trying to do with Kratos' character and his story. I finally understood the changes in gameplay and started to love it. This was the writers masterful way of telling the fans they want to do something new with God of War, but to do that the fans need to move on from the past and accept the new future. This was a message only the fans of the previous games would have felt the full extent of while playing this game. Genius. After replaying this I have accepted that this is definitely my favourite game in the franchise and I look forward to the Sequel.

Really good and fun.

Played on: Playstation 5 Version: Playstation 4 (4k 60fps) Edition: Digital Masterwork. Man, I am so mad at myself for waiting until now to play through this. I am late to the party on this one & that is for two reasons specifically. 1. I never played the originals so I didn't know if I would appreciate this as I'm not an "original fan". 2. I was afraid of this being another overrated & overhyped game. I was wrong on both points above. What Santa Monica has done here is crafted an incredible story that has an amazing world filled with outstanding characters. What makes an great story is seeing growth in the characters which is the heroes journey. This is scriptwriting 101 & they aced this with flying colors. The gameplay is fantastic. The upgrades, armor sets, & skill tree are all so fun to see grow & just see how much ass you can kick (LOTS). Everything is firing on all cylinders here & it is effortlessly doing so. A certified classic. Now...let's begin Ragnarök 🤙 Final verdict: Buy it

This game is amazing I love the graphics the story kratos and atreus relationship and all the boss fights but the one thing I hate about this game is the valkyries cause just why they don't need to be so hard

A unnecessary but ultimately majestic piece of gaming masterpiece. The way Norse mythology is mixed with the story, the way it is linked to Kratos' past, the implementation of old and new mechanics, the characters, situations, and many more make this game an absolute diamond. SME managed to make a game full of powerful emotional and epic moments whilst controlling one of the most unidimensional characters in gaming history and giving him a second chance that is worth playing and replying for ages to come. The lower aspect of this game is boss fights and enemy variety, besides that, it is a must have for PS and PC owners.
