Final Fantasy VII is a role-playing game set in a post-modern, steampunk world where technology and fantasy elements coexist. Players control Cloud Strife, an ex-soldier who joins the eco-terrorist group AVALANCHE to oppose Shinra Inc., a corporation draining the planet's life energy. The game features turn-based combat with an active time element, a customizable Materia system for abilities, and unique Limit Break attacks for each character. Players explore 3D environments, engage in various mini-games, and uncover a complex plot involving Cloud's mysterious past and a powerful threat to the world. As the story progresses, players gain access to different vehicles, allowing them to explore new areas and uncover additional content.
Final Fantasy VII follows the story of mercenary Cloud Strife, who is hired by the eco-terrorist group AVALANCHE led by Barret Wallace to help fight the mega-corporation Shinra Electric Power Company, who attempts to drain the planet's lifeblood as an energy source to further their profits. Apathetic to the cause, Cloud initially fights for personal gain, and for the promise he made to childhood friend Tifa Lockhart. Cloud eventually joins forces with many others to save the planet, which is threatened by Shinra and Cloud's nemesis Sephiroth, and discovers a reason to fight for a cause other than his own.

As I said this franchise isn't for anyone, back then it looked amazing however nowdays even tho we know how beloved this game is, Final Fantasy VII is not without its shortcomings and occasional design problems which clearly would make someone unfamiliar with the franchise to want to avoid it. One of the biggest things this game has is the god tier soundtrack, like it's just so masterfully constructed. The fighting sequences are well designed. The more powerful space sometimes take a lot of different pov camera angles which is unique in its own way for a game that came out in the 90s.
The story is equally as gripping as the music is, the aesthetics are chef's kiss! This game felt like it was paying a lot of tributes to classic films such as Dune. You as Cloud get to experience the character blossom as he gains experience through different monster encounters and battles. The battles are pretty much what you can expect from a jrpg...however they can become interesting by using the mechanics of "limit breaks" or "Materia" which is something you can buy to create different effects in combat. Sometimes these are even hidden around you so you'd have to do a lot of environmental explorations.
Although there is no voice acting if memory serves right the dialogue does feel heavy and at times you will be forced to do some decision making even tho the game is pretty straight forward with how it needs to advance. At times you actually must plan ahead and devise some sort of strategy to beat some of the boss monsters that can be likely to make life difficult. Overall excellent game however as I said it does take a long time and if you're not the type of player that likes to play HOURS on a game you have a lot of commitment to be prepared to give. I only played it once. I think it took roughly 90-100 hours for me to complete in a span of 7-8 months. As I said it is a lot but that's what RPGs are known for.
