Summary

Experience the critically acclaimed Horizon Zero Dawn with stunning new visuals and upgraded features. In a far future where colossal machines roam the Earth, pockets of humanity survive in unique tribes among the lush, overgrown ruins of our long-lost civilization.

This was perhaps the most interesting science fiction story I’ve ever experienced in a game. Years ago, I played it without being as invested in the story as I am now. I give it such a high score because it moved me emotionally by the end. For me, a game is 10/10 when it makes me feel something, and this one succeeded.

I’m not entirely sure a remaster was necessary for a game released in 2017, especially when titles like Bloodborne or Infamous 1/2 genuinely need a bit more attention. However, I wouldn’t call this a pure cash-grab either. I paid $10 for the upgrade, which felt reasonable since I already owned the PS4 disc version.

The team worked hard to make the world more stunning and alive. The characters’ faces are expressive, as is their body language. I remembered that in the original version, I was constantly pulled out of the immersion solely because of the robotic facial animations. In terms of presentation, I’d say the only downside was that the voice actors occasionally failed to convey the right emotions for the story being told.

The gameplay is fantastic, and the pacing is solid. After playing so many Ubisoft open-world games, I had forgotten that other games in this genre don’t have to feel so slow or grindy. It took me about 18 hours to finish the main story along with some side activities, though most of the side quests were boring at best. The only redeeming quality there was that the gameplay itself was fun and addictive.

If you already own the PS4 disc version, I think the $10 upgrade is worth it.

I know everyone is hating on the remaster but really its a good upgrade nearly everything in the game is either got replaced or just got a new high res model and mostly using forbidden west models

The game just feels more alive and more beautiful than ever yes if you played it already there’s nothing new but if you want something to play on your new ps5 pro i think this the best game to test the console on

Played on: Playstation 5
Version: Playstation 5
Edition: Digital Uprgrade

This didn't change my opinion on what I had initially thought of the game to begin with. Yes, it looks prettier. Yes, it plays better. But those were never the problems. The problems were a wooden protagonist & an uninteresting narrative.

I skipped all the cut scenes (I've already beaten the game before) & just rifled through it. I will hopefully have some time in the future to clean up for a platinum but even if I can't, meh. That's EXACTLY how I feel on this game....meh.

If you don't own this game already, I wouldn't go out of your way to buy it. If you do already own it, it's worth the $10 for the visual presentation, adaptive triggers, & 3D audio.

Final verdict: Wait for a sale

There’s literally no reason for this to exist the only reason it gets bubble five is because the original game is good and they didn’t do anything different so it’s still good. It’s just doesn’t need to exist.
