Summary

1998. HALF-LIFE sends a shock through the game industry with its combination of pounding action and continuous, immersive storytelling. NOW. By taking the suspense, challenge and visceral charge of the original, and adding startling new realism and responsiveness, Half-Life 2 opens the door to a world where the player's presence affects everything around them, from the physical environment to the behaviors even the emotions of both friends and enemies.

I'm gonna go straight to the point, this game is a fcking MASTERPIECE. 10/10

Half-Life 2, 2004, who would've thought that a game from 1998 could get a second installment with a new engine, new graphics and new mechanics, while keeping the original story of the first game and continuing it. It had a few achievements who were quite boring to get but nothing too much, except finding all the Lambda boxes left around the levels.

With solid game mechanics that basically defined the genre, Half Life 2 is one of the best first person shooters out there.

This game was fantastic. Still holds up well, except a little bit in the graphics department, but when there’s a big area, it makes up for that.

Every chapter of the game introduced something new and cool for you to play around with. My favourite one was the gravity gun, because it was just so much fun to play around with.

The achievements test your skills, make you try out new things, as well as including some easy ones for you to pick-up as you play the game. Even the ones the “collectibles” in this game serve a purpose in helping you.

Here are some of the flaws:
- Its flawed by the loading system (which on my xbox 360 took 20 seconds to load).
- At some parts, I was confused at what to do, and that happened at least 3 times (and I did have to look up a tutorial for one part). However most of the time this is pretty clear.
- The ending is not great, mind you the previous parts of the game were fantastic, but this felt quite anti-climactic. Whilst it made sense for it to end this way, it’s still disappointing. I know the episodes make up for this, but for this game alone, it’s not great.

But considering everything else, I’m surprised I didn’t get to this game sooner, and out it off. Don’t be stupid like me, and play this game if you still haven’t. If you’re poor, then it goes on sale on steam for £1.00

I’ve seen this game do things that new games released still haven’t done, and it’s quite baffling. This game will forever live to be one of the greats.
9/10.
