Summary

A new saga begins for one of the most acclaimed video game franchises in history. After narrowly escaping an attack on their village, JD Fenix and his friends, Kait and Del, must rescue the ones they love and discover the source of a monstrous new enemy.

A pretty good reintroduction to the franchise, thought it captured the tone pretty well again and the cliff hanger at the end was wild.

I LOVED the new horde mode too, definitely put an unhealthy amount of hours into it.

I would just like to say I have never been very into gears of war series I played the first one when it came out and thought it was decent but I have recently been playing threw the series with my gf and this one tops all of the original trilogy more character to the characters. More color. Better gameplay. Better story. There is just one big issue that made my rating lower then gears 3 the first 2 chapters fighting the robots where not that fun the robots sucked to fight.

Would give a 9, but the robots were ridiculous in the beginning of the game. The graphics were very appealing. Also enjoyed the characters personalities more because of depth.

A thoroughly enjoyable experience and a beautiful looking game. A perfect story introduction, it's good for new players and nostalgic for the original players.

The playable segments as 'Gears' in the midst of battle, was something I did not expect to see. Seeing Dom again in one of those parts was great as well.

Unreal Engine 4 took 'Gears' to a level of unseen beauty. The atmospheric levels and War torn gritty environments, the gameplay is non stop action.

It's incredibly cinematic the entire time. Since 2013, graphical leaps between console generations have become more and more miniscule. Getting harder to notice.

I played the Xbox one X enhanced version on the Xbox Series X. Finishing Gears of War 4 in 2024, honestly the game could have released in present times. It shows what Unreal Engine can produce if utilised properly.

The gameplay is the old DNA formula of previous Gears games, mixed with mechanics from 'Gears of War Judgement' and refinements to the UI to suit a newer title.

Other than that, everything is essentially the same as the older games. It works well to be honest, it's familiar but it has enough smaller changes to feel different and somewhat fresh.

At first the newer characters weren't really getting my attention. As the story progressed they did start to become more engaging to listen to, each with individual stories.

I loved that Markus was mainly in the game the whole time, you don't have Gears of War without him. Markus, Cole, Baird, and Sam's introduction was so awesome.

The criticisms, I disliked that they have such a crucial character 'Anya' just written off, offscreen. To a supposed death, it's a real shame.

I thought they could have had some playable sections as Markus, it would have made sense for parts of the story. It's not needed I admit, as this focuses on James, but it would have been good fan service.

I'm assuming Xbox wanted a big title for Xbox One. So they settled on a new Gears of War game, however in this case of Gears of War 4. I'm not really sure why it was made? If you know what I mean?

It makes the original Gears trilogy feel meaningless? Leaving some of the characters worse off then they did at the end of Gears of War 3, which is supposed to be the ending of Gears.

I think they could have ended Gears of War after 3, prequels are understandable. However, this as a sequel does not make sense to me. Im not against it, I love this series, however this felt out of place.

I'm not sure the reintroduction to the 'Locust' was convincing enough. It feels forced. As much as I enjoyed this and want to play Gears 5, I'm not sure what the purpose of these newer games are.

Final Verdict, despite not understanding the need for a sequel after the Gears of War trilogy ended. This is somewhat an 'acceptable' way to enter the story again, I did have a lot of fun playing , I highly recommend.
