Me: *dodges atack*
DS2: No You fucking won't

-But really this is the worst souls game I ever played.
It looks beautiful tho..

Edit: I gave it another try and fully finished the game w the DLC, and...it still sucks and I will never forgive myself for the time I wasted playing it. I should've skipped to DS3

In my opinion, this game is better than Dark Souls. People hate this game because of the many changes it made, neglecting all the good aspects. Personally, I enjoyed this game a lot, unlike Dark Souls, which was unplayable for me. In fact, Dark Souls should receive all the hate that this game gets for being so atrocious in every single aspect except combat and lore.

I loved the overall game design, and some areas were visually breathtaking, such as the best hub in the game, Majula, where I could get lost for hours, and Frozen Eleum Loyce from The Crown of the Ivory King DLC. Others were alright in comparison, but The Scholar of the Second Sin mod made the whole world look so much better. It made the game more playable and added a certain charm that got me addicted. Even without the mod, the level design is a thousand times better than Dark Souls'. I just loved exploring the world so much. The soundtrack was beautiful as usual; the menu theme and Majula's theme still keep playing in my mind. The best part of the game was the combat, the weapons and armors, and the experimentation with builds. These aspects made the game more addictive for me.

Now, for its shortcomings, the game was too long for me, and I lost interest near the end. Along with the DLCs, this game took me 50 hours to finish. The lore is inferior to Dark Souls as well. They made some ridiculous inclusions like adding timer to torch and durability to rings. They even paid tribute to one of the worst areas in the series, Blighttown, by creating Blighttown 2.0, The Gutter, aptly named. The worst part of all is the hideous ganking that remains. This game has the worst ganking and runbacks in the series, but it still made me want to play this game more. There are no cheap deaths like there were in Dark Souls, but in this game, it's mostly due to ganking. And for the bosses, most were easy. I expected them to be hard like I thought they would be.

Overall, I really wanted to give this game an 8, but it has so many flaws. However, this is a proper sequel and is far superior to Dark Souls. I would recommend it to those who have patience and are willing to give it a try. This game isn't the worst one or the black sheep in the series; Dark Souls is.

After the wave of excitement the original Dark Souls caused, everyone immediately started talking about what a Dark Souls 2 would be like. No matter how good DS2 was going to be however, it was always going to be a disappointment in the eyes of many.

DS2 took a lot of risks and experimented with a lot of gimmicks. Whilst not all of them worked (a lot of them where fucking annoying) they allowed DS2 to carve it’s own mark on the trilogy.

They’ll always be DS2 fanboys and DS2 haters. It’ll always be the black sheep. It’s highs are high and it’s lows are definitely low.

When people ask if they should try From Software games I always recommend them to go in head first to get the best experience. But with Dark Souls 2 I would go with caution because this game can definitely leave a bad taste in your mouth at times. It’s definitely worth experiencing at least once though.
