Summary

Set after the events of the first movie, Zombieland: Double Tap - Road Trip is a ridiculously fun top-down twin-stick shooter featuring local co-op multiplayer for up to four players. Play as your favourite heroes from the original (Tallahassee, Columbus, Wichita and Little Rock) as well as new unlockable characters from the upcoming sequel. Use your special abilities, an arsenal of weapons and the essential Zombieland rules for survival to stay alive against huge numbers of uniquely grotesque and dangerous undead monstrosities in Zombieland: Double Tap - Road Trip's story-based campaign mode, wave-based horde mode, and ongoing daily and weekly challenges.

I know Zombieland: Double Tap - Road Trip (poor name format, by the way) is not a great game. It’s cheap, short, and if you’ve been one of the unfortunate souls to not do your research and buy this full price, you should be filing a police report instead of reading this because you’ve been robbed. However, in saying all of this, I like this game. Sure, it’s not doing anything special, it’s a low budget movie tie in trying to get a quick buck - but it does scratch a very particular itch in my specific interest in videogames: it feels JUST like those old flash game top down zombie shooters (specifically, Gibfest.) I have been trying for years to find a game that feels bang on like those types of games, that captures the essence of simplicity, weapon variety, and some light upgrade systems, and this one ticks all of those boxes for me. I know it’s nothing spectacular, the graphics are lazy, the music is uninspired, the story is boring, but it holds a certain essence of nostalgia for me that I just can’t help but enjoy. I’ve been eyeing this one off for years now, and I had a good time with it. If I ever have interest in getting a fix of the genre, I’ll comfortably be coming back to this to explore any other modes or content it offers. Zombieland: Double Tap - Road Trip (once again, HORRIBLE name format guys, come on) is not going to be one that I outright recommend to anyone, but if there’s anyone out there like me who’s itching for that niche fix of a traditional top down zombie shooter, this is what you’re looking for.
