Summary

From one of gaming’s most acclaimed sagas, Gears is bigger than ever, with five thrilling modes and the deepest campaign yet. With all-out war descending, Kait Diaz breaks away to uncover her connection to the enemy and discovers the true danger to Sera – herself.

Really good story. Crazy cliffhanger. Graphics are beautiful

I originally would've given this an 8/10 but the finale of the campaign isn't very good. Felt incomplete? Otherwise this was a pleasant surprise back in 2019. I do recommend it at least for the singleplayer as it's a bit different than the original trilogy.

Enjoyable gameplay and shooting. Good story and co-op split screen is fun.

Making Kate the main character was not it. The rest of the game really fell off from GOW 4 for me, but re-exploring the the new hope facility was a cool moment.

Gears of War 4 and Gears 5 are both great standalone additions to the franchise, which I enjoyed. However, they certainly aren't necessary additions. This could of just ended after the third game.

I'm excited for Gears of War E - Day because it's bringing back memorable characters, and it's returning to the traditional dark and gritty feel of Gears of War.

Kait, Del, JD, and Fahz are all great characters. But I didn't find them memorable, I will play the follow up to this when it's out. Parts of the story I lost interest, and Kait becomes irritating.

I like the expanded levels that were open to explore, completing side missions and upgrading Jack's gear etc, but I feel the story campaign was cut way to short in replacement for this.

The ending cliffhanger is a good setup to return to, although I really didn't like the option of choosing who survies between JD or Del. It's definitely impactful, it just feels forced.

We'll have to see what they decided to be cannon, or if it's dependent on player choice. I really enjoyed my time playing this but the most memorable moments are when the original characters show up.

As a side note, this to date is easily the best looking Gears of War game. Unreal Engine 5 shows the beauty through this. Gameplay is 'fine tuned' and definitely the best of the franchise.

Even though it is really just a 'mix up' of all previous Gears of War games. Audio and soundtrack are good as expected, and the level designs are a lot of fun to explore.

Cool to see Baird and Paduk interact again, glad they didn't kill of Cole, that would have ruined the entire game. They did a good job with JD and Baird.

Wish they would have explained what happened to 'Anya' properly, considering she's such a key character. 'Sam' isn't really in the game either, no mention of 'Sofia' from Gears of War Judgement.

Final Verdict: I recommend Gears 5, but much like Gears of War 4, it's fantastic and also unnecessary. While the reintroduction is 'acceptable' I just don't think it makes any sense.
