Summary

Resident Evil 6 Remastered brings the original experience in high definition. The game offers multiple characters, including fan favorites and new faces, along with solo and co-op modes and new challenges for players, different from any other in the Resident Evil franchise. This edition includes all DLC, along with two costumes per main character, originally exclusively unlockable through Residentevil.net, that are now unlockable through the game itself.

Resident Evil 6 has a very divided audience. You got the ones that hate it. You got the ones that like it and you got the ones that wanna fuck that cast. (I'm part of the last 2) 🙄. Lowkey dreaded writing this review because it will feel like a waste of breath when this game is overhated. Truth be told I love this game.

This game has a special place in my heart. On paper yes it is one of the worst RE games. That I cannot deny however in an enjoyment factor this is my most beloved game of the franchise. There are many complaints about this game. For starters the game is the longest game of the franchise, and yes it does have a lot of cutscenes, complaining that it plays like a movie sure can be debatable however to me it doesn't feel as such because it gets overshadowed by the actual gameplay time. Another critic is that although there are 4 campaigns there is repetition. Well yes it does make sense as to why that would be as the stories link together. Yes you get to repeat levels and boss fights however they don't last long especially if the bosses belonged to other campaigns. Every game that has different campaigns eventually do have to link to make sense.

This is actually the game where everyone looked hot. Except...ada which hurt me because Home girl didn't need that terrible design. They did mother dirty. However Chris honestly has never looked as hot as he did like it took me by surprise. That's a handsome fella if you ask me. The storylines are emotional specifically Chris's campaign. They took so many steps to really peel through more layers to how fucked up mentally this man has become. Battling his depression with alcohol, was truly painful to experience. Someone protect this man and give him a hug. Leon and Helena were great although Leon and Ada had THAT chemistry. Jake and sherry were so fun to watch and seeing her grow and become more confident was super good. Ada's campaign was my personal favourite. I played co op with my little cousin and the experience was nothing but magical. The only thing that held this game back for me was the actual game mechanics although I found it so fun to just beat up enemies it was different in a bad way. Specially the way you could do inventory and heal. It was weird but whatever I got used to it and didn't bitch about it. Yea man I'd play this over and over again and will soon. Also (the villains were so fucking camp????? Or is that just me)

Resident Evil 6 is one of those entries in the series where you can tell how obvious it is that the company doesn't know what to do with the franchise. It tries to cater to a number of RE fan groups: the ones that prefer horror, the ones that prefer action, and the ones in between—all at the same time, making RE6 struggle with its identity, but overall as an experience - it's Resident Evil at it's most grand scale.

Visually the game is serviceable; at the time it looked rather impressive, but if you try to snoop around too much, you will often find yourself noticing muddy textures, which RE6 does have a lot of. Character models, though, are pretty excellent, all distinct with good facial animation, at times even looking visually better than newer RE engine titles.

Narrative-wise, it's not really memorable; it doesn't help that the story is cut into 4 different campaigns, which you can get pretty lost in if you do not choose the correct or better order the game gives you. It's mostly a lot of events happening, but nothing of note at the same time that leaves a mark on the series going forward. The villain is average; the Ada Wong obsession of the storyline is rather odd, but her presence is always welcome. What is the highlight is that classic characters get a lot of screentime; it's always fun to follow Leon and Chris, the latter having a good personal arc. It was also nice seeing Sherry again; wish she would have appeared more after this entry. The same case with Jake Muller; he is a rather good newcomer who is rather compelling and also has a well-written personal arc and could have been a bigger highlight in the series given a chance.

Gameplay is easily the highlight of RE6, but only if you don't expect survival horror going into it. There are four different campaigns that have their thing going: Leon's campaign tries to be more horror-focused and mimic early entries of the series; Chris's campaign is aiming to be an action/shooter, the soldier-on-the-mission type deal; Jake's is replicating RE3 Nemesis, heavy on the action too, while Ada's is on the shorter side, focusing on puzzles, a secret agent type deal. The variety is there, and it's welcome, but all these campaigns don't quite deliver on what they set out to achieve, but what they all deliver is solid gameplay, a snappy shooter with a lot of takedowns, dogfighting, and spectacle. It's surprisingly deep if you are eager to experiment and try to be stylish rather than tactical; it has that gun-fu style of gameplay that I haven't seen anywhere, honestly. It's a shame that crafting, item management, and save points are completely absent; I get it's going for something different, but they are part of RE's identity. The Mercenaries mode is probably the best in the series, with a high amount of variety of character options to choose from, all having different abilities. It's honestly a blast if you give it some time.

To sum up, RE6 is a mess, but a fun one that is worth trying out just out of curiosity. It's a one-of-a-kind game with rather good combat that you can get rather addicted to; besides that, it's also a rather lengthy experience with a bunch of iconic characters, which is always nice to spend time with. It's a mess, but I can't say that I didn't have some fun with it.

I let all of you contrarians on Youtube and Reddit convince me that this game is actually good, so I gave it another chance and I was disappointed once again.
I could barely stomach playing this game for an hour but, for some sick and twisted masochistic reason, I actually finished all 4 campaigns. I think I kept playing for the same reason I have watched the Resident Evil movies; despite the really long stretches of boredom, tedium, frustration and anger, there are a lot of hilariously bad moments and occasional moments of genuine fun. With that being said, I can only recommend this to people who hate themselves and/or enjoy playing shit video games.

Resident Evil 6 tries to do a lot at once.
It offers four different storylines, mixing classic horror vibes with high-octane action and even a bit of stealth.
The graphics and cinematic set pieces are impressive, and the co-op mode adds a fun layer to the experience.
However, the game can feel repetitive, and its story sometimes gets muddled with too many shifts in tone.
If you enjoy a blend of cinematic action and horror, it might be right up your alley. But if you're a purist looking for a pure survival horror experience, you might find it a bit off-target.
