Summary

The Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet games, the newest chapters in the Pokémon series, are coming to Nintendo Switch later this year. With these new titles, the Pokémon series takes a new evolutionary step, allowing you to explore freely in a richly expressed open world. Various towns blend seamlessly into the wilderness with no borders. You’ll be able to see the Pokémon of this region in the skies, in the seas, in the forests, on the streets—all over! You’ll be able to experience the true joy of the Pokémon series—battling against wild Pokémon in order to catch them—now in an open-world game that players of any age can enjoy.

The fact that this is absolutely one of the worst performing games I've ever played, yet some of the most fun I've ever had in a video game shows the true potential of this franchise.

If this game was a solid 30fps and polished, it would an easy 10/10 for me. I haven't played a Pokemon game properly since Gen 4, which was one of my favourites, however I tried played every gen after that and just could not get very far.

Scarlet/Violet drastically changes the Pokemon formula to what my dream Pokemon game would be. An 'open world run around with your Pokemon and take on any challenge in any order with no restrictions' kind of game.

This is the breath of the wild of Pokemon. In terms of game design, it's a masterpiece. In terms of game fidelity and performance it's absolute trash. I'm astonished that one of the biggest franchises in the world can release something in such and embarrassing state. Yet the fact it I still had so much fun with it shows the true potential of what this franchise can be.

Had a blast with this game. I was fatigued from playing other open world games but this game brought back the memory of playing older Pokemon titles like Leaf Green which I love. This game was a breath of fresh air for the Pokemon franchise with its
vast open world.

My issues with this game would have to be the performance, which ruined my experience. The performance wasn't unplayable but it definitely hurt my experience with the game. This game could have been something really special.
The other issue I have with the game were some features in Pokemon Arceus which were not implemented here like the catching mechanic or the damage element which wild Pokemons can do to your character when you are exploring the open world.

This is a pre alpha game, full of glitches and bugs, visually it looks like a 2005 game, there are several and heavy frame drops even for the smallest things.

They tried to make an open world game, giving the player the possibility to choose what to explore, but they didn't adjust levels with the player's progression (my last gym had lv 20 Pokémons, mine where lv 70). The cities are useless and empty, the only things you can do is visit the same identical shops, which are only interfaces, nothing more.

Some parts of the story are fine, but the main one is only introduced at the end (except for some books at the academy, almost never mentioned), and it was cut at the end in order to be completed with a dlc, so you have to pay more if you want to complete the main quest.

Just fucking awful. I put 50 hours into this game and it was a fucking mistake. The open world is dead, beyond finding new Pokemon there's no reason to explore. The gym battles are easy, especially if you follow the correct path. The new Pokemon were worst then Sword/Shield. This series just put out one their best games in decades and they follow up with one of their worst games. Yeah, this games SUCKS.
