Summary

Unsheathe your sword and take up your shield! The world of Pokémon expands to include the Galar region in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield!

Wasn't worth my time, wish I hadn't bought it.

Very good!! I really like the dynamax concept. It is still a bit too easy, but that's not really a problem for me. Story a bit weird, but sure!

Not the best Pokémon game, not the worst. The soundtrack as always is definitely a plus, though visually the game isn't fantastic, graphical details are lacking, framerate can be choppy, and the wild areas, while cool, feel a little bland, and the Pokémon popping in randomly is a bit off-putting. Additionally, the game is still far too easy, and I feel as though Pokémon has been needing some difficulty settings for a long long time, this seems particularly apparent in Sword and Shield, where the player is encouraged to catch as many Pokémon as possible in the wild areas - which grants experience to the whole party - which leads to excessive overlevelling. Generally though, it's a good game as far as Pokémon goes, but it's nothing groundbreaking.

Do not waste your time. Everything wrong with the Pokemon franchise shown its face on this game. Characters, story, Pokemon, graphics, how the game runs, design, etc. all are terrible. Pokemon had such a great opportunity to make their first main-line game on a home console something special, but they squandered every opportunity. There are some locations that don't look too bad, but overall this game was a let-down.

A fantastic Pokemon game made super accessible by the Switch. Visually quite pretty (when the camera is fixed) with a ton of great new Pokemon, a neat format for the gyms, and some pretty cool gameplay experiments. Because this game released on the Switch, people I knew actually got the game, so I finally had friends to play Pokemon with and for the first time complete the Pokedex. Not only that, there's a decent bit of multiplayer fun to be had in the Wild Area.
Bonus points for two VERY excellent DLCs! The Crown Tundra was amazing especially. If you're interested in what the Wild Area tried (and kinda failed) to do--open world Pokemon-- the DLCs not only achieve that but excel at it.
