Not the best Pokémon game, not the worst. The soundtrack as always is definitely a plus, though visually the game isn't fantastic, graphical details are lacking, framerate can be choppy, and the wild areas, while cool, feel a little bland, and the Pokémon popping in randomly is a bit off-putting. Additionally, the game is still far too easy, and I feel as though Pokémon has been needing some difficulty settings for a long long time, this seems particularly apparent in Sword and Shield, where the player is encouraged to catch as many Pokémon as possible in the wild areas - which grants experience to the whole party - which leads to excessive overlevelling. Generally though, it's a good game as far as Pokémon goes, but it's nothing groundbreaking.
mixed feelings. pokemon isnt trying to do anything groundbreakingly new, I get pretty bored of it easily. the characters are mixed, although I really liked the rival and it had a lot of cool/funny/cute highlights within the otherwise bland plotline. what also bothers me are the overpopulated routes, there're way too many pokemon at this point, and overall the game is still way too linear and easy. For kids its probably great, but there's really no need to play every pokemon game releasing anymore. shame!
Not the worst pokemon game out there, but really nothing special. The wild area was a good concept to move the series forward that ultimately fell flat in execution. The better version of this was legends arceus. The new pokemon designs were pretty solid, nothing exceptional but definitely not bad by any means. The visuals here are really rough I won't lie. Textures have no business being so awful, and I'm not someone who thinks graphics are everything, but when the previous games were let's go pikachu and eevee, there really isn't any excuse since they've made incredible looking games on the console already. The different areas of the world to explore were decent as well. As much as the areas and the pokemon were mediocre and passable at best, discovering these things were still the best part about this game. This by no means is a perfect pokemon fame or experience, but if you have an itch for pokemon this can do
Do not waste your time. Everything wrong with the Pokemon franchise shown its face on this game. Characters, story, Pokemon, graphics, how the game runs, design, etc. all are terrible. Pokemon had such a great opportunity to make their first main-line game on a home console something special, but they squandered every opportunity. There are some locations that don't look too bad, but overall this game was a let-down.
