Holy shit, now this is how you do a proper RPG that actually takes into account all the actions you've previously done, but also lead into the 3rd installment. This game has unforgettable characters (Garrus), a plot and lore that are top tier. Definitely the best sci-fi RPG I've played

What a game. This game is epic & is without a doubt Bioware at their peak. Improved gameplay from the original & an epic story that will keep you gripped until the end.

Not as straightforward as ME1, lot of parts you just sort of go through, amazing characters, start and incredible ending though

So much content to unpack in this game, and the DLC is so seamless that it's completely integrated into the story. This game is a huge step up from the original in every way bar story. The gameplay is standard but engaging and flows much better, the graphics have improved, and the RPG elements are fantastic! The integration of your 'Sheperd' into the second game is a great sell. Carrying on with my mistakes and choices I made in the first game makes for a fully compelling story. The world is very rich and I cannot imagine playing as any other Shepherd apart from my own. The opening scene is DROP DEAD GORGEOUS and well worth its own mention. There are a couple of glaring drawbacks in this game. Mainly that the conclusion is a little weak and the Illusive Man. I don't quite understand his motivations to the point I don't think he understands his own motivations. Overall this is a fantastic game and a welcome addition to the series. Looking forward to the sequel!

Excellent sequel to the incredible Mass Effect. The combat, upgrades system, weapons, and environments were all a definite step up from the first one. The side missions recruiting and doing favors for your crew members was another fantastic addition that made me really attached to each one and their mini storylines added depth to characters I didn't care for initially. Very nice. Also LOVE that you can import your character from ME1, including the decisions you made there carrying over and impacting the world in ME2. Seeing how some of my old crew ended up because of decisions or dialogue options I made was so cool and unbelievably immersive. There are a few things that made me decide to drop ME2 down a star from the 9 stars I gave the first one though, despite how much I enjoyed it. -Ammo, I wasn't against the addition of ammo. It prevents you from always spamming one weapon, forces you to take cover and have to reload. However I'm not sure if I got a bug or if it was made this way but there were more than a handful of times I ran completely out of ammo for every weapon and couldn't find more. One of those times was during the final boss fight against (*spoiler*). Very frustrating. The amount of ammo you got for every gun was stupid low. -Citadel size was greatly shrunk. And no good upgrades to buy from there anyway. Council became completely irrelevant to the story. The citadel and the council were my favorite things about ME1, it gave it a sort of Star Trek esque feel to the game that I really enjoyed. And choices relating to the council and humanity earning a place on the council were irrelevant and not really explored at all. Very disappointed about that, hoping STRONGLY that ME3 will explore this plotline more. -Would have liked if working for Cerberus had been a choice from the beginning. Thankfully you can make choices not to listen to them on the big things, but still. Kind of pulled me out of the choose your own adventure deal of ME that the game forced me to work for them. The way I played my character in the first one, it felt like a sharp 180 in morals for my character to be willingly working for a human supremacist terrorist group. *Partnering* with them to eliminate the collectors I could definitely see, but reporting to the illusive man on all matters, having Cerebrus agents on my crew, my own ship created and owned by Cerebrus, etc. not so much. -Vaulting was another nice mechanic to add but, again like the ammo mechanic, in practice it was not done very well. Was very clunky and frustrating in the middle of a firefight. Maybe gears of war spoiled me idk. I also understand this game is on the older side as this point so some clunk was expected. Overall though 8/10 is still a very high rating that this game definitely deserves, despite it's few shortfalls. If you liked the first Mass Effect, absolutely play this game!

An excellent follow up to the first game, Mass Effect 2 is a significant upgrade from the original in terms of gameplay, combat and scale. I highly recommend the Legendary Edition of this game.

This game stressed me the hell out, but then it's supposed to. The only really critique I have is that I've never romanced anyone because my choice wasn't available in this game and my Shep wasn't a character that could move on so easily.
