Mario Party 3 is the third and final Mario Party title for the Nintendo 64. A total of eight characters are available to choose from: Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Yoshi, Wario, Donkey Kong, and newcomers Waluigi and Princess Daisy. Mario Party 3 features duel maps, in which two players try to lower each other's stamina to zero using non-playable characters such as Chain Chomps. It is the first Mario Party game to feature Luigi's main voice and also it is last Mario game where Princess Daisy appears in a yellow and white dress, and with long hair, as well as the last Mario game (until New Super Mario Bros. Wii) in which Yoshi's "record-scratching" voice is used. It is also the first Mario Party game to have multiple save slots.

Now for the most important part. Are the Boards and Mini Games good???
Well, the boards while not having such high peaks as in MP2 with Horror Land, Bowser Land and Western Land; it did have on average better boards than MP2.
Before talking about the boards I also wanted to mention that the game has a fun mechanic of being able to go backwards. With Reverse Mushrooms, Reverse Spaces and going backward when going to a gate and not opening it. Players can make some big plays strategizing going backward. Now Waluigi Island is a fantastic board with a fun Action event in the middle to choose your path. One time playing there with my sister, the first Star landed on the secluded island far off which randomly switches its spaces, so all its spaces can be for one turn Blue Spaces and the other turn could all be Chance Time or even Bowser Spaces. We couldn't land on that island until the final 5 turns since it was a risk or just too far away, it's honestly peak. Deep Blooper is fun, around the middle of the board when you choose a path to go, a shark will stop you and force you to press one of four buttons; 3 buttons are okay and will let you pass the path you choose, but 1 will fire a torpedo at you making you go the opposites path. However, if 3 of the buttons are pressed and we're all good, then you would know that the last button will make the shark shoot the torpedo; you can press the direction you didn't want to go so the torpedo launches you in the path you wanted. This alongside the Blooper in the middle that when you stop in an event space near it, you will be switched to the other path; making it an extremely fun board to strategize around. There's also a fish in the top left that will suck you into its mouth and then launch you to a different location. I didn't know how it worked when I played it but you can strategize around it just like the Blooper and the torpedo. Spiny Desert and Chilly Waters are good boards with one thing each that pisses me off. In Spiny Desert there's quicksand in the middle of the board and if you land on the event space, it will suck in all the players around it and take them to the other quicksand on the other side of the board. It isn't a bad gimmick, but it gets ruined when all the players are now in the same spot and will take turns to leave the area of the quicksand and if any of those players land on an event space then y'all are stuck switching between them quicksands; pray you have a mushroom to quickly leave those areas. Chilly Waters on the other hand has a hard to time Action event where you have to press the A button extremely fast in a specific moment or else you're sent back in the board. Besides those two things, the boards are fun. Woody Woods is frustrating because it constantly changes its paths, and it's hard to strategize since the paths change so frequently. They switch at the start of the turn or when a player lands on an event space. It does have a good action event with the big Trees. If you land on the good tree, you can pick to either get more coins or be able to roll the dice again. If you land on the bad tree you HAVE to choose to either lose coins or roll the dice again and go back a couple of spaces. The stage is pretty mid so I doubt I'll ever play it again when the 4 other boards exist. Then there's Creepy Cavern... its ass. It has two areas, the left side and the right side, in the right side there's a Whomp that blocks the path to go to the upper area of the map, they ask for a specific item that you can give them so it can switch areas. We never gave them an item since we preferred to use the item it was asking or we could just use a skeleton key to go to the other side. There's also an Action Event where you jump on a minekart and go to the other side. It's not too hard to do but hurts your ego if you fail it and now you have to wait for the minekart to be in your area again. It can also get confusing how the mine kart works since I think the mine kart has to be in your area to use, if it isn't and you land on the event space, it will bring the mine kart to your area pushing you a couple of spaces. This board isn't fun and I wouldn't recommend playing it. Now the minigames on average are decent but there are a lot of duds especially the Game Guy minigames with their RNG bullshit. Also, the item mini-games happen too often slowing the flow of the game. MP2 has better minigames but it's kinda unfair to compare them since MP2 just picked the best minigames from MP1 and then made a couple of new ones while MP3 had to make 70+ minigames from scratch.
Mario Party 3 is in my opinion the best Mario Party on the N64. It has on average better boards than the other two and you can hold 3 items instead of one in MP2 or none in MP1. But I don't know if I'll go back to play this game with friends often since we prefer to play other Mario Parties and the N64 ones are kinda outdated. If I come back is probably to play on Waluigi Island.
Now to give my Pros & Cons about the game
Cons:
- Weak selection of Minigames. Game Guy minigames are the worst.
- Story mode is only playable in Single Player.
Pros:
+ On average has great boards. My favorite ones are Waluigi Island and Deep Blooper Sea.
+ Can hold 3 items for the first time in the series.
+ Pretty good character roster for its time.
+ Charming Story mode.
+ Going back spaces mechanic is really fun.
That's all! Thanks for reading my personal opinion and remember to vote for the Mario Party in the next elections!
