Summary

Mario and Luigi embark on the adventure of their dreams in a hilarious action RPG that combines the resort world of Pi’illo Island with the wild landscapes of Luigi’s imagination, where anything can happen. Meet a host of hilarious characters as you strive to rescue Princess Peach and help Prince Dreambert free his petrified Pi’illo people from the bat-king Antasma’s curse.

Wonderful game with a few setbacks (in my opinion). I think the best things about this game are the exploration, combat, and music. The environments look great, and interacting with the various overworld elements is simple and satisfying (like those hammer platforms that launch you into different areas, or the rock-drilling platform), especially with the 3D effect on. The Dreamworld shines with it's various forms of traversal. The combat is fun and the different Bros. Moves and Luiginary attacks can be satisfying to pull off, though they can feel lengthy or gimmicky, especially those that involve motion controls. The enemies and their attacks and the counters you can pull off are equally as satisfying, and sometimes require you to actually learn movesets and patterns. The music is extremely catchy, and I think every same individual found themselves having Mario and Luigi jumping to the beat of the soundtrack. The downsides to this game, in my opinion, is the dialogue and pacing. Compared to past Mario and Luigi, I noticed a few characters seemed more tame and not as funny as they had been in the past? The older games had a sense of humor that relied on wacky dialogue and blunt humor, and it felt like this time around there was many more blatant attempts to make bits that weren't that funny seem funny. The tutorials also took some time, and I found myself mashing through dialogue occasionally so that I could get back to playing the game. This may just be me, but I thought the pacing was off. I can't put my finger on anything specific beyond tutorials and maybe spending lots of time in one area, but it felt like the game went on for longer than I wanted it to. Overall though, the pros outweigh the cons. Great game.

I really like this Mario & Luigi. A lot of people overlook its qualities in favor of the first three but dude, Dream Team has so many creative mechanics and locations. The Dream World for one is both a creative mechanic and a creative location, and gosh darn it, it finally gave Luigi the spotlight, even for a second! Plus, and that might be a hot take, but the soundtrack is arguably the best or second best in the franchise! Even if some places or gameplay ideas feel generic, so many people sleep on this game (no pun intended) and I don't think it's faire because it's awesome.

It is a good game all in all for children. But for an adult it is just too easy most of the time.
