Summary

DmC: Devil May Cry - Definitive Edition includes all the stylish action gameplay from the original release, all previously released downloadable content, including the Vergil's Downfall campaign plus brand new modes and additional content, making this the ultimate offering for Devil May Cry fans. Maximizing the potential of next-gen hardware, the game's high quality production values will run at a stunning 1080p and smooth 60 fps across PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Quite clearly the black sheep of the franchise, but still good enough to give it a chance.

Characters and plot—don't have any defense for it; it's highly mediocre, with only Dante's character development throughout the game from a careless thug to a protector of humanity clearly being the highlight.

Gameplay is rather great and an enjoyable experience, although the demonic and angelic-specific weapons are somewhat tiring to use over time. There is a pretty decent variety for combat to not get stale, a good plus being playable Vergil and bloody palace modes.

What I consider the best redeeming qualities are the soundtrack, art, and level design; playing through DmC after DMC5 felt incredibly refreshing, with levels consistently being varied and unique.

The Definitive Edition adds much-needed 60 fps and turbo mode, making the experience much more enjoyable. New outfits do also add some variety; Bloody Palace is also a joy to play around in.

Honestly, I don't think there is a reason to not play this at least once considering how dry this series content has become.

In terms of esthetic this is by far my favorite Devil May Cry title. ( unpopular opinion I know ).

While this may not be the original Dante that everyone loves I do feel like this version of Dante also deserves some spot light! His rebellious nature fits in perfect with this stories thought provoking themes of servailence capitism ( in this case it's the demon king Mundus pulling the strings. )

The additional of Limbo created a lot of space for team ninja to get creative with the missions and one of the reasons this is my favorite DMC in terms of story. Limbo offers a distorted version of reality with environments changing mid gameplay to create some incredibly fun platforming!

And of course the gameplay. Combat is smooth , fast paced and exciting! An absolute adrenaline rush with phenomenonal controls.
This version of Dante boasts both Demon powers as well as angel powers which opens up for some insane combos that the series is famous for. Some enemies will only be damaged by demonic powers as well as some will only be damaged by angelic powers keeping you fresh on your toes!

All in all I would love a sequel for this version of Dante. The concept of Limbo and the introduction of angelic powers make this an absolutely fantastic reboot.

a solid hack and slash, but it's no devil may cry. almost every redesign in this game is bad, however the core gameplay is fun.

Positives: The gameplay in this game is good. There is a use for most of the weapons in this game and they all have a weight to them. The story is fine. The sound track isnt bad for what is on offer here. The environments look great and varies. The designs of the enemies and bosses are all pretty cool as well.

Negatives: The story is just fine. The half angel half devil aspect of the story is pretty cool but it doesn't go into an interesting route. It tries to go for a more in depth story but it doesn't really succeed. The characters are fine as well. Dante still kind of acts the way he should bit the design change just doesn't need to be a thing. The main thing overall while I was playing this game is the fact that there was no real reason the game needed to be made, especially since the other games in the series were good. The bossfights also aren't the greatest either. Kablooey as a weapon isn't really that useful.

DmC: Devil May Cry is a game that has some merit on its own, but feels like an unneeded reboot for a franchise that was already great.
