Summary

Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back is the second game in the Crash Bandicoot series, and the sequel to the original game. The gameplay is largely similar to that of the original, as players make their way through a limited environment whilst breaking crates that contains bonuses. The goal of the game is to gather 25 crystals for Crash's nemesis, Doctor Neo Cortex. The crystals are scattered between 25 different levels accessible via Warp Rooms, which are hub areas of the game. A level is cleared by collecting its respective crystal and reaching the end of its path, which returns Crash to the Warp Room.

For me it wasn’t as good as the first game, for sure they’ve made a lot of upgrades but it’s still the same first game. If you like the first game just get in the second you will not be disappointed ♥️👾

This game, although obviously rushed out with a development time of 13 months. It introduced a lot of great things that the series is known for today. Sliding, slide jumps, belly flops, and no death platforms are awesome additions to the gameplay loop of the original.

However, some things really needed more time in the oven. Confusing collectible locations that seem like the only way to get them at the time of its release were in gaming magazines. Terrible controls on the jetpack level!!! And just an overall frustrating feeling when you find out the last box you needed for level completion was in a pit you needed to drop into, that anywhere else would kill you!

Fun story: a little bit after the pandemic, i was studying IT with a small group of people (in person), we had computers too (remember this). I couldn't focus enough on the teacher while doing nothing, but i learnt that if i was playing something, i could focus and pay more attention (as ironic as it is, it really worked, i'm not joking). So one day i downloaded an ps1 emulator and decided to 100% Crash 2 on the PC (it was not the first time i played it). It took 3 days i think to complete it and it was really fun and it made me talk a little more to my teacher and made me ask more questions. A friend always laughed his ass off when he saw me playing it. Man, how i miss these days.

This review is old.
