Summary

Blood and Wine is the second major expansion to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The players will accompany Geralt of Rivia to the region of Toussaint, one of the few places in the Witcher universe which has remained largely untouched by the war. The calm, laid-back atmosphere holds a dark and bloody secret that only the White Wolf can uncover; the expansion features new items for players to collect on their adventure and introduces previously unknown characters.

The best DLC I've stumbled into in years. The setting's a feast for the eyes and the story cuts deeper than the main game's ever dared. Better in every way. It’s the kind of experience you warn people they’ll never forget.

Expansion Blood and Wine provides a satisfying conclusion to the journey of Geralt of Rivia by telling a standalone story set in a completely new location that provided much-needed contrast to the series in more than one way.

Blood and Wine is a much grander expansion in scope, at times feeling like a full-scale standalone video game. The new location, Toussaint, is visually quite beautiful; it is meant to both look and feel like a classic, larger-than-life fairytale land, which is nothing we have seen before in the series and quite refreshing after mostly traveling lands worn out and tainted by the war in the base game.

The city is more expansive and alive than Novigrad, with large outskirts areas filled with new locations to explore.

On the gameplay side of things, new skills got added together with a new mutagen upgrade system that continues to expand your possibilities in battle, as well as a huge amount of new items, swords, armor, and new mastercrafted variants to all witcher school armors.

The narrative of the expansion I found it to be my favorite story told in The Witcher 3, with exciting new and old characters getting introduced. Main and side quests, as always, are well structured, well written, and all exciting to go through, with some side quests being quite humorous. I don't want to spoil anything story-wise since I was quite often pleasantly surprised by the twists and events that occur throughout the campaign.

Blood and Wine is CD Projekt Red at their best, with a generous amount of quality content that is comparable to a standalone game. It definitely is a must-play, with it possibly being one of my most favorite gaming experiences to date.
