Finally got round to play it after hearing all the mixed feedback. I fall into the loved it camp. Very solid story, fun gameplay, old school inventory management, decent weapon variety. The game doesn't overstay it's welcome. Not every game has to be 50 hours long. Can't wait to play the story DLC when that comes out!

I would like preface that I played this game for the first time with all it's patches and DLC for a low price. Having said that, the Callisto protocol was a very divisive game when it initially released. Only having played it now, I cannot speak for the state it was in during release time. I can only say that I am in the camp of people that really enjoyed this game as of playing it today. The Callisto protocol is a survival horror behind the mind of the original Dead Space, and in a sense is considered a successor to dead space. In a way, the game is extremely similar to Dead Space, except the gameplay revolves less around shooting and has more of a focus on melee combat, with some shooting in the mix. The melee focus of this game took many people by surprise earlier this year when they expected it to play like Dead Space, but was nothing like it at all, thus all the mixed opinions on this game. It was probably me going into this game knowing what to expect, as opposed to others trying this at launch that made me really enjoy the combat. It is some of the most satisfying (although easy) melee combat in a survival horror game. Beating up enemies with a heavy stick just feels so gritty and chunky, especially if you're using a dualsense controller. It never got old. Once you get accustomed to that, combining the melee with gunplay just elevates the satisfaction to new levels. Despite playing on normal, the game was too easy, but still very enjoyable gameplay wise. The graphics are amazing here and some of the best of current gen. Photorealism is perfect for horror games, as obviously the more photorealistic something is, the more scarier you can make it. The environment is creepy and top notch, my only issue with it being that it's not very original. If you've played Dead Space, especially the remake, everything here is familiar. The story and characters are really forgettable, unlike a Resident Evil game where the story and characters shine. The writing of this game really brought this game down a point. Nothing about it was interesting or original. The biggest problem with this game is that the last chapter is locked behind DLC, which is why I can see this game left a lot of bad taste in people's mouths. Initially they would get a cliffhanger ending, and then they are told they will have to wait and BUY the DLC just to finish the story. I would have really hated this too, but luckily I got the game DLC in one cheap bundle. The Callisto protocol is a good game in my opinion for fans of Survival Horror, but I only recommend picking up the "Deluxe Edition" with the DLC to make the purchase and playthrough worth it.

Without comparing this to dead space (the main reason for the mixed reviews) this was objectively a solid sci fi horror game. The plot was interesting and the game kept me on my toes all throughout. Graphically the game is beautiful and the gameplay ran smoothly but the story was too short to justify the $70 price tag.

Played on ps5 and pc Has really good atmosphere but that's it. the story is really something to get from point A to B with no interesting characters or places like dead space. Even the gameplay is just flat version of dead space ironically everything about this game is in a way or another like dead space but not in the same quality At the end i feel like its just average buy it with a discount or with game pass/ps plus

Adding on a few points for sound design alone, played in surround sound and the mix was insanely good

If was ok. The gameplay got a little boring for me in the middle. Didn’t know you have to pay extra to get the ending. I’ll wait for a sale to do that 😂

I was really, really looking forward to this, but it was terribly dissapointing. I expected something similar to Dead Space in quality, but this was just like a Dead Space clone, which made everything which Dead Space did worse. This is basically we have Dead Space at home. I really had to force myself to complete this.

Hella good first game from Striking Distance, it has problems—writing, bugs and enemy variety—but the atmosphere and space horror design is on point. Can't wait for the sequel!

Shouldve been so much better, amazing atmosphere, lacking in the story and game play mechanics. Shouldve been longer.

Easily one of the best looking game of 2022 and the audio is *chefs kiss* phenomenal. They definitely made their landing on the sound effects and atmosphere. The character models is the gaming industry best. Krafton did an amazing job with what they can do on the unreal engine. But unfortunately it suffers the same fate as RE3 Remake, because the content of the game isn't worth $60 - $70. The gameplay was far too easy but clunky. Unlike Dead Space where it trives on making use to your limited arsenal and tight corridor. Callisto Protocol throws away the scary factor of losing your ammo and limited resources by making your character an unstoppable juggernaut with his police baton. And sometimes the game will just straight up kill you out of nowhere through some buggy combat system. It's short too, I've beaten it in 8hrs on normal settings. I'll have to wait for sales to get the DLC. The story was alright. It's definitely Dead Space inspired but in a prison setting. They definitely rushed through all the characters to the point where it made them feel unimportant. However it does leave with more to explore in the lore. I had high hopes of this game since it was director by Glen Scholfied, the same director as Dead Space but unfortunately it doesn't live up to the former masterpiece in the survival horror genre. Due to poor sales there is a chance that this game might not live to see a sequel which sucks because the potential is there. It's easy to see the game to make improvements.

Absolute MID of a game unfortunately. No writing, shit combat, every room plays out the same, sometimes the atmosphere spooks the player but other than that it’s also weak. Only the graphics sells it but that’s not enough. Really sad because I was hyped for this title.

I don’t think it was bad at all. The world was gorgeously rendered and the story had a lot of potential to become a series, and seemed to have been written that way. The combat encounters did get repetitive, although the melee focused combat did bring an element of tension that made you think twice before charging an enemy. A sequel could be a 10/10 if they learned their lessons with this one, though highly unlikely sadly.
