With out a doubt better then the first game. Level design is much more fun and fast paced, highlights are chemical plant, casino night, hill top and the brand new hidden palace zone. Music is once again great no bad songs at all. The special stages are just ok if your sonic and tails together it's a nightmare but if your by your self there alright. If all the chaos emeralds are collected you can transform into super sonic,tails and knuckles making them faster and invincible for a short time. All around a great game.

almost perfect sonic game. also my first sonic game - nostalgias a bitch. although I like to think I'm not too biased on nostalgia. Almost every zone is perfect in level design, aesthetics, fun factor etc.. except oil ocean and metropolis. I like to think of myself as a metropolis zone enjoyer but those damn crabs and grasshopper guys do piss me off. and oil ocean is just too damn slow and also the seahorses piss me off. Therefore, I wasnt so glad when oil ocean came back to sonic mania. Needless to say, however, the soundtrack slaps all the way through, ESPECIALLY metropolis zone. ahhh I love that song. I've beaten this game countless times (the 1000 times i said ive beaten this game arent too far off tbh), getting all the emeralds and whatnot. for sure my favourite classic sonic game. doesn't drag, doesn't have all too many stinkers at all (I don't even hate oil ocean or metropolis, they're just the worst of a good selection) so yeah. banger video game.
