Something that this title absolutely nails is the atheistic of the source material and I'm not looking at you Michael Cera!

I absolutely love Brian o Malleys graphic Novel series and this game has played great homage and respect to his work.

The story follows the graphic novels story where Scott meats the girl of his dreams but in order to be with he must defeat her seven deadly evil exes! Fun right haha

Seeing all my favorite characters in pixels form punch dudes into coins whilst the games absolutely killer sound tracks blasts in the back ground is always a blast!

Be warned though, this game has a slow start and levels are meant to be replayed with new moves unlocked! It does feel really good to absolutely bulldoze through a level that once was a challenge. Of course in typical beat em up fashion there are a variety of weapons to pick up to even the odds.

The character and background animations are eye candy for sure especially on the Nintendo switch oled screen.

I'm not usually into beat em ups but this one won my heart. (Although my love for the source material may influence my score!)

Visually great, full of personality, but beat em ups are so dull and repetitive and this game does not break the mold.

Pros
- visuals
- IP is treated with respect

Cons
- doesn't break the mold of the generic boring button mashing beat em up

super fun beatemup... for a bit. in my opinion it gets a little too easy at the end (I played on the hardest difficulty the whole way through). I didn't grind all too much or anything, just playing through normally made it too easy at the end so idk. Still, super fun, maybe I'll play it again with another character. Also, needless to say, the visual and audio department are top notch, super clean artstyle and it was incredibly crisp even on my switch in handheld mode. The game oozes with charm and love for video game history and music history alike. I think I found a reference to my favourite band Bomb the Music Industry! in here cause there's a door in the first level that says 25! (with an exclamation mark) which is one of their songs. idk maybe I'm wrong but I like to think there was a BTMI! fan in the team and like why else would there be an exclamation mark there. Anyways enough rambling, fun game especially for someone who doesn't usually play this genre, it got me interested in trying another beatemup.

So many bugs, poor small design choices that add up to a frustrating experience, tons of grinding and some pretty bad bosses with a horrible ending. Good enough variety for fighting but not enough unique enemies to use said variety on. Shockingly still fun enough to warrant playing. Its like a shitty river city ransom, but with unbelievably good music, fantastic visuals and a hell of a lot of charm. Even if the references can be a bit much at times.
