Summary

River City Girls stars Kyoko and Misako, two street-tough high-schoolers who must fight their way through the six regions of River City to rescue their kidnapped boyfriends, series mainstays Kunio and Riki. Along the way, they'll utilize an arsenal of combos, counters, throws, and special attacks; battle an assortment of enemies; accept numerous side quests; level up with experience points; interact with NPCs (including guest stars from past River City games); and shop for a variety of items, food, and gear to boost stats and unlock new abilities. The girls can even wield weapons and recruit defeated foes to join them in combat!

Such a fun beat 'em up for the current generation. Playing this single player or co-op can be fun. The characters are such a blast, and all are fun to talk to. Combat gets upgraded the more you play and eating food for the first time always gives you a permanent bonus stat. Doing this will definitely make fights easier to get through and gives you a sense of progress. Multiple endings, will include 1 true ending. A must for beat 'em up fans.

Beat 'em ups need to advance. You could add so much gameplay variety in this day and age that these games desperately need. The combos just aren't enough. You spend so much time punching enemies that feel like sandbags and it gets dull trying to progress.

Not even the humour, witty dialogue, good soundtrack and graphic design could save this from being more than a mildly entertaining solo experience.

This might be a fun couch co-op experience, but solo I was bored.
