Summary

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is a third-person puzzle-platformer and action-adventure computer and video game published by Ubisoft. It is a reboot of the landmark video game series Prince of Persia created by Jordan Mechner, who served as creative consultant, designer, and scenario writer for The Sands of Time.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is a classic action adventure with a lot of charm to it and with an interesting and well-executed gimmick that makes the series stand out among the crowd.

Visually the game did age, but mostly in terms of character and enemy models, environment, and art design; on the other hand, they still hold up well and are aesthetically pleasing.

Narrative is not complex and does take a back seat for a good chunk of the game, but it picks up at the end with a good twist and a satisfying conclusion. The bread and butter is, of course, the banter and growing relationship the prince has with secondary character Farah, as well as moments when the prince is talking to himself. Banter is well written and constantly references previous conversations the characters have, which I found enjoyable. The antagonist, on the other hand, is not good, an evil caricature that doesn't impress even at the end.

Gameplay is the highlight that aged rather well for the most part. Parkour is enjoyable with great level design that, besides a few moments, is easy to read and doesn't get old. Puzzles are mostly timing and parkour-based, with a few exceptions that are complicated at first but easy to figure out. The time manipulation mechanic is an interesting addition and proves to be quite useful in both parkour and combat.

Speaking of combat, although the moveset and loop are well made, the enemies you fight can be frustrating. The frustrating part stems from bad design; the enemies teleport constantly right in front of you in groups, making it hard to freely move around, but the kicker is that bigger enemy types love to knock you down without allowing you to make a move, starting to pummel you one by one, which can be comedic at times. In addition to all that, Farah often is in battles with you, which sadly can die, causing a game over.

In addition, the soundtrack is rather good, doing a good job of bringing the feel of 9th-century Persia quite well.

To sum up, all things considered, The Sands of Time is still an enjoyable adventure that is worth playing at atleast once. It has good writing and enjoyable parkour that is unique to this series, but it definitely needs a remake, which I hope we finally will get next year.

After loving the movie for so many years, I'm glad I finally gave the game a chance too.
Usually, this genre isn't my type, but I loved the idea of the dagger! It made the game even more fun to play. I literally played it in its entirety during Christmas. I couldn't put it down.
The story is stripped down to the bone but the gameplay results quite diversified and never repetitive. I had a great time going through the castle and seeing what challenge was waiting for me. I liked spending time in that "world".
It's definitely a game worth to be played even 20 years after its release. I can't wait to play the others and for the remake to came out!

What a timeless masterpiece this game is...!
You can see and feel the amount of passion & Creativity that went into making this game.
The level design and puzzles are soooo freaking good.
Platforming is in another level of its own.
The only thing that is kinda outdated is combat.
The story is good too.
But in the end the balance between combat+puzzles+platforming & story is so well done!
