Summary

Pokemon HeartGold Version and Pokemon SoulSilver Version return players to the scenic Johto region first introduced in the beloved original Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver games nearly a decade ago. The richly detailed adventure of Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver is now enhanced for the Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi systems with updated graphics and sound, as well as new touch-screen features and a host of surprises. Pokemon HeartGold Version and Pokemon SoulSilver Version bring dozens of Pokemon characters back into the limelight for a new Pokemon generation - and longtime fans - to catch, train and battle.

Great game. True to form and exactly what you expect from a Pokemon game, which can be a good thing or bad thing depending on what kind of gaming itch you have. It's a clean and great looking remake too, and an awesome insight into the work it must have taken to create all 400 and something sprites so you could have any Pokemon walk with you and also have it interact with certain objects/environments.

I feel like the exploration and attention to generation-specific mythology is was not as much of a focus in this game though as it is in most other Pokemon games though, which was a let down, because the Lugia/Ho-Oh/Legendary Beasts mythology is excellent. It could have done a lot more with that part of the story. It's a great remake either way with fun cameos and easter eggs from other games/generations and the biggest post game I've seen in a Pokemon game by far. You can explore the whole of Kanto, including battling its gym and catching its legendary Pokemon, not to mention the extra sub stories that allow you to catch some of the Hoenn and Sinnoh legendaries. Having said that, I absolutely hate the roaming legendary feature any time it appears. In this case, it was with Entei, Raikou, and Latios. It's needless difficulty that is not fun or rewarding.

With the Pokeathlon and Battle Frontier as well as a bunch of other things, there's absolutely tons to do in the post-game. It took me 40 hrs to do everything I wanted, but it could easily sustain you for 100-200 hrs.
