Summary

Take your Pokémon journey to the Kanto region with your energetic partner, Pikachu, to become a top Pokémon Trainer as you battle other trainers. Use a throwing motion to catch Pokémon in the wild with either one Joy-Con controller or Poké Ball Plus accessory, which will light up, vibrate, and make sounds to bring your adventure to life. Share your adventure with family or friends in 2-player action on one system using a second Joy-Con or Poké Ball Plus (sold separately). You can even connect to the Pokémon GO app using a compatible smartphone to bring over Pokémon originally discovered in the Kanto region! Explore the diverse and vibrant region of Kanto! True-to-size wild Pokémon roam around in the game, so catch them like a real Pokémon Trainer by using motion, timing, and a well-placed Poké Ball. Go on a stroll with your favorite Pokémon in your Poké Ball Plus! Connect your game directly to Pokémon GO* to receive Kanto region Pokémon.

Played on: Nintendo Switch
Version: Nintendo Switch
Edition: Physical

I watched my son play this for a couple of hours now & even joined in for two player. Pretty cool. Nothing special & is just a glorified Pokémon Go but as an old fan, it did bring back old memories & ultimately I had some fun. But like I said, nothing special.

Final verdict: Wait for a sale

I enjoyed this game. The pokemon go mechanics made the game slightly interesting to play Kanto again from that perspective. Seeing kanto with such good graphics was also pretty cool. The story is classic and I like the move to remove the HMs. The mega evolutions being in this game was another nice touch - something we lost on switch which sucks. Being able to walk with and ride some pokemon is also an underrated feature of this game. This game is a slept on remake of blue and red.

This is combination of your usual main pokemon game with Pokemon go - making it accessible to everyone but also disappointing some old players of pokemon.

First and biggest change against usual games is the wild encounters. Usually you fight the pokemon, weaken it and then catch it. Here as at Pokemon go you encounter pokemon and right away start throwing balls. I hated this mechanic based purely on luck at Pokemon go and I hate it here as well. The good thing though is that they decided to add shared exps for everyone in your party from catching pokemon.

Speaking of exps they reduced the exp you get from beating trainers radically. So radically that I was getting only 800 exp even from beating some pokemon at elite 4...and still my pokemon were all over lvl 60 when I got to the elite 4...🤣

My another complain is that there is only 150 pokemon (151 if you buy some special edition and get Mew 😑...and there are 2 totally random pokemon from later generation that you have to do some gimmick to get as well...).
Plus...they taken away Safari zone and instead there is something where you connect this game with Pokemon go and you can dump your Pokemons from pokemon go to let's go and making completing Pokedex a cake...

To the good things: all Pokemon get exp share, and what I enjoyed: you have all your Pokemons at the bag (don't try to think about it too much) so for instance during elite 4 you can easily switch before each battle or just switching on the fly on any route because you just want to see cute little Cubone following you but you don't want him in your top 6 as super Exped beast. I also love to see pokemon can follow you as that's always super cute, poke rides are a thing as well and my personal favorite - secret techniques for Pikachu. You no longer need to drag that one pokemon to learn cut, fly, suf, etc. because Pikachu learns them all without sacrificing any of his moves.

There is also a huge post game: each pokemon get trainer that specializes just in that one pokemon and you can challenge them all except...if you fight Venusaur trainer you can only attack him with Venusaur...those challenges are extremely difficult but fun!

All in all I enjoyed this game a lot. It took me back to the times of Pokemon red with way way better graphics and some cute scenes and also made me truly feel as Pokemon trainer with all the pokemon following me. The only downside is the extreme easy difficulty for some but if you think about it as an relaxing experience with cute Pokemons you won't be disappointed ^^
