Summary

Pokémon Conquest is a strategy game set in the Ransei region. You play as a Warlord of the Primus Kingdom, one of the 17 Kingdoms in the Ransei region. You are charged with the task of battling against a wide variety of powerful opponents, including the mighty Nobunaga, whose goal is to destroy the Ransei region! The 17 Kingdoms of the Ransei region possess a variety of Armies competing for control. The 17 Kingdoms are also deeply linked to a specific Pokémon type. Primus Kingdom, for example, has a strong connection with Normal-type Pokémon!

Love this game, campy and fun and nostalgic at this point. If you like Pokemon and you like tactical rpgs, I think it’s worth playing once! Bonus points if you’re into the feudal era of Japan.

I recently played a romhack of the original game (which I own) and this led me to review what this game was. I found it an interesting and successful experiment in the Pokémon franchise, and I spent more than a hundred hours on it. So I enjoyed it. It still remains limited in what it offers players.

The gameplay is interesting, but there are many elements that would have required more polish, such as the design of some arenas, the unbalanced design of some Pokémon compared to others... In my opinion, the game is fun but we should not expect a turn-based strategy game that competes with more famous titles in the genre.

The art style is really spot on, and the way the characters from Nobunaga's Ambition have been transformed and paired with their companion Pokémon seems apt to me, although I've never touched an NA game so I don't know if the pairings also make sense with the characters' personalities and stories.

Finally, praise must be given to the soundtrack, which really did not need to go so hard for a Pokémon spin-off for the Nintendo Ds.
