Single player Co-operative Third person 🔫 Shooter 🗺️ Strategy 💥 Action 🐉 Fantasy 🏛️ Historical 🚶 Stealth
Summary

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is an action-adventure stealth video game and is the third action-based Metal Gear title made specifically for the PSP. The gameplay consists of two primary modes: Mission and Mother Base. Mission are the actual action sequences of the game where the player must infiltrate an enemy territory or fight a boss, whereas Mother Base is an army management. Some changes have been made to the standard Metal Gear formula: the player is now unable to move or shoot while laying down and while pinned to a wall, making Peace Walker the first game since Metal Gear to lack any crawling ability.

Will never understand why some rate this game, dreadful boss fights

Gosh💀 I played this..... back in primary school (what I think some of yall know as middle school or something idk💀) so I'm working with REAAAALLY fuzzy memory rn but XD

I remember I loved sneaking around much like most shooters I play and the story did catch me off gaurd when I found out who the mastermind behind this games whole problem was (my self back then really never experrerit), So I'm sure the story must've been good. I remember seeing a bunch of Easter eggs around and even though it was my first game within this franchise, they still amused me. Kojima (the maker of the game) being found in a random container somewhere is one of the more prominent ones I can remember XD

Another prominent memory that I couldnt possibly forget is the after game sequence regarding a beach, and our lovely Kaz-San 💀 Romantic Bonding with the Bros. Its burnt into my memory bank.

I must simply end this all by saying one thing and one thing alone-
Snake-?
SnAkE...?
....
SNAKEEEEEEEEEE-!!!! (Insert death theme here)
Also can I just say, it's saying something when this was my first and only game played from the franchise thus far, havent replayed it ever, played it possibly a decade ago and dont really watch any videos on the game or anything and that death sound is still so fresh in my mind XD i hummed it with ease while typing this XD #TheGameMusic?Mua💋

Quite possibly the best game on the PSP not only for its epic, long-lasting single-player story that sets the stage for Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain but also for its highly addictive, long-lived multiplayer. I'll strictly be focusing on the single player in this review however, since I played that most recently, but I do think it's important to note that they somehow nailed online play on the PSP. The story takes place between MGS3 and MGS5 and focuses once again on Big Boss or Naked Snake. While the style of gameplay is similar, the UI, controls, and even cinematics are completely different from any of the games previously.

The cinematics play out like a comic book rather than a film, and they feature hands-on QTEs throughout to help immerse the audience in the cutscenes. While I don't love this approach normally, I felt it worked really well in this setting and on this system. Kojima most likely knew he couldn't get the quality he wanted on the PSP so he opted out of doing his classic large-budget cutscenes and instead pivoted to the unique comic style. I enjoyed when the interactions with the cinematics felt immersive or more in-depth with the scene, but personally I could have done without some of the QTE's but that's preferential.

The gameplay sets the scene for where the series is headed in terms of overall gameplay and style. One of the biggest features added in this game that stays in the series is the base building, as Big Boss must help build his fortress and followers to its crowning glory that we know it is in MG and MG2. While this and some of the gameplay can feel a bit tedious and repetitive, I found it to be super addictive and rarely, if ever, boring! Depending on what sections you level they'll give you different upgrades and advancements for your playthrough like weapons, items, camouflage, etc. The UI took some getting used to, as the weapon switching can be a bit of a pain at times, and the strange movement on the PSP can feel unnatural at first. However, I got used to the non-joystick movement and actually found the button-style to be a little more precise. The game still allows the player limitless ways to approach a level whether it be through stealth or guns blazing! I can't say it was particularly difficult overall, but then again, I struggled a little with some of the main bosses. The biggest piece of advice I can give to newcomers is level, level, level. Sure it's time-consuming, but if you don't have enough resources or a high enough leveled weapon you'll likely spend more time struggling than progressing. Lastly, it would be criminal not to mention how refined and cinematic the CQC is in this game. By far the smoothest and coolest it's looked in the series yet!

Without spoiling anything, this story is a must-play for those who are playing the core series due to how heavily it sets up the events following Snake Eater. In fact, without this Phantom Pain will feel super confusing and Big Boss' motives in Metal Gear still don't quite make sense. However, this game perfectly fills in those gaps, introduces new characters that become crucial to the story, and still stays as compelling as ever even with the drastic change in cinematics. I pushed myself to get the true ending and I highly HIGHLY suggest you do the same because the last act is quite possibly the best part of the game's story in my opinion.

If you somehow missed both the remaster and the original PSP version of this game, I cannot suggest you play this game enough! The gameplay is addictive and rewarding, the story is essential to the overarching narrative of the series, and the music is astoundingly good! In fact, this has some of the best songs in the entire series for me, particularly Heaven's Divide! It's wild that a PSP game was this experimental and long-winded! I can't think of another handheld game that I put THIS much time into, but leave it to Kojima to come out with the biggest banger on the system!

This game overally needs a lot of time even in most niche things and it's weird tho...
You go to boss fight trying to defeat most advanced AIs with most advanced weapons and you finish them easily but then when you review the time you spent playing and you realize just 25 percent of the time was on that fucking hind which seems like it had infinite troops, 25 percent on that KGB guy escaping again and again pissing you off and having to spam the date mission to trigger them faster and meanwhile witnessing snake fucking an underaged girl in a stupid looking box and 49 percent on trying to get the true ending which good luck finding the reason why that mf is not escaping anymore.
