[Aside from the Hype biased reviews and Harry Poter fans, yes, Hogwarts legacy is an exquisite adaptation but also a Failed RPG Open-world game.] (7.5/10) ▪︎Hype gradually fades after the first hours to the game, especially when it starts introducing the open world elements outside of Hogwarts school. (-) ▪︎Regardless of the enormous amount of details in Hogwarts School, this phenomenal attention to detail is sadly limited to the indoor environment of Hogwarts school.(+) (-) ▪︎The outdoor environment is a massive dispersive, soulless landscape. With few areas that are lively. (-) ▪︎NPC movesets or Ai intelligence in general is of extreme basic level of development. That adds up to the soullessness in its open-world. (-) ▪︎Story content from writing quality to lore, is too average with seemingly minimal efforts exerted in trying to come up with a good plot. (-) ▪︎The mediocre writing quality overly focused on the protagonist, making it a superior figure. And that did cost the narrative being negelctive of side-characters and poorly presenting them. (-) ▪︎Game direction and concept execution were probably the only positive sides that can overweight the negatives. It has well captured Harry poter and wizardry atmospheres. (+) ▪︎Gameplay gets tedious overtime feels like as if it doesn't grow on you even with upgrades! (-) ▪︎Combat system has almost nothing to offer for both lacking in variety and also the bad AI intelligence for enemies. (-) ▪︎Quests are too repetitive with random encounters of enemies. Without further notice or hints, you'll suddenly find yourself in a boss fight! (-) ▪︎Dialogues are boring and mostly are pointless lore for the average player. (-) ▪︎Some exploration elements and puzzles were fun to navigate and solve. (+) ▪︎World architecture is remarkably beautiful. (+) Overall.. Hogwarts Legacy, while it did well to Harry Poter fans, it failed to properly present it in an Open-world direction, with poor investment in RPG elements. Might would've been better experienced in a Semi-open linear world. (+) Positive (-) Negative

I really don't care about the trans discourse but one thing about this game has to be said... This might be the most overrated game of all time. Most mechanics in this game are mediocre at best, the performance on PC is weeks after release dogshit and the game just does not even look good. If you are willing to give this game a 10/10 rating, you are most likely extremely retarded.

A great looking game, but with not much going on beneath the surface and repetitive gameplay. The voice acting is terrible, why are you allowed to just wander around at night, why are you allowed to break into people's houses and why does no one acknowledge you when you walk past them on a path. I'd have personally preferred a more linear experience, but with more classic HP sites to explore for this era. Outside of Hogwarts and Hogsmeade the landscape is pretty boring. The story and side quests seem stretched out. But there is some ambition at least and not just a simple cash in

A dream come true for any Harry Potter fan. This game is the Batman Arkham game of the HP series in the sense that it is an open world game that is extremely close to the source material and is full of details everywhere that the fans will appreciate. This game is truly made by fans of the franchise. The gameplay is a mix of exploration, puzzle solving and combat, all done impressively well. The visuals are stunning and I'll be shocked to see how they're gonna run this on last gen consoles, especially the switch. The story is serviceable but nothing to write home about. However the characters and dialogue are great. This is game is almost a 10/10 however it's brought down by a point due to some obvious missing features such as Quidditch and Wizard Chess, a lack of enemy variety and some performance issues here and there. Regardless of this, I've spent 55 hours to platinum this game and I enjoyed it all the way through. Hoping for a NG+ update or expansion sometime soon.

The game has a lot of potential, there is a lot there that was attempted - you can tell while playing - but all together it fell short. It seems they've scratched the surface of many things but that just means when you look at it closer, it doesn't work too well. However, funnily despite all these shortcomings - some of which I'll list below - the game provides a lot of fun. Some shortcomings: - PC version is bugged and badly optimized, yikes - Its not really a Hogwarts story, you're a student but you never really do any student stuff. Big disappointment and a big flaw in story-telling and immersion - Talking about immersion, there's a bunch of other stuff that breaks it (we are 15 and defeating whole armies of dark wizards, for example) - The open world is empty the further you go out - The enemies are insanely repetitive after a short while - Why are there spiders everywhere all the time? It got tedious around the 50% mark. - Caves as well as the hamlets quickly start to look all the same, no variety - The interactions with the beasts leave everything to be desired, they are one of those things included that is extremely lack-luster - The moral storytelling of this game is bizarre, we have racism against the goblins that is barely discussed, we have dark magic which is at least more discussed, we have "we gotta rescue the beasts" but we get to slay spiders, dugbogs, wolf-like creatures left and right, we constantly consider ourselves the judge of life and death as a 15 year old (in fights) - The puzzles (merlin trials especially) just get repetitive so quickly, unfortunately - leveling and talent points, difficulty I could go on and especially do so in-depth and with examples but that'd be very spoilery and a whole essay. The game clearly tried to do a lot: magic beasts, RPG, costumizing options, potions and plants, many NPCs, open world, diverse fighting experience, touch on morality and racism and good vs bad story-telling, create a beautiful Hogwarts, add puzzles, add choices (not well done at all since they don't matter), etc. In doing so every thing they touched upon doesn't feel fleshed out. And then of course we are also missing the essentials for actual Hogwarts immersion (if that's the goal): Classes, exams, more interaction with students, sitting in the Great Hall or Common Room, Quidditch, wizarding chess, gobstones, perhaps chocolate frog cards as collectibles, possibly the possibility of detention, gaining and losing house points, rivalries and ideally actually getting to known our roommates/class mates The question that I am left with after playing is: Who is this game for? Is it for people who love Harry Potter? Well, then why didn't we get more Hogwarts immersion? Is it supposed to be an RPG that just uses the wizarding world as a background? Then why not focus more on that instead of throwing in half-finished concepts everywhere? Since its clearly a linear game with no real choices, why market it as "your own unique story"? I understand why the game went with all their choices but I don't agree that it makes a good game. All in all, the world could have been smaller, they could have spent that time including quidditch. I'd have been okay with less merlin trials, less monsters, even less side quests if that'd have meant we get wizarding chess, gobstones and perhaps more NPC interaction and relationship building. I would have loved if the game was actually partially, perhaps 40%, focused on being a Hogwarts student and actually teaching us things, especially about the magical beasts, but it clearly wasn't meant to be a student story at all. They could have also totally left out the beasts part and made that a DLC later on. They could have gotten rid of the Room of Requirement entirely, its immersion breaking and doesn't work like that anyway. They could have gotten rid of at least the lower side of the map entirely, had fewer side quests, puzzles and errands and instead focused on student relationships, fewer NPCs but a deeper connection/story with each of them.

Played on: Playstation 5 Version: Playstation 5 Edition: Digital (Deluxe Edition) Platinum (#36) 🏆 When I first turned this on & hit the 3-4 hour mark, I thought this game was a masterpiece. As I progressed & really experienced what the world had to offer, the story that was being told, & getting knee deep in gameplay, I started to see with unbiased eyes. This is by no means a bad game. At all. But it is certainly not a masterpiece. I think everyone can admit that this game is unbelievably better than it should be. We all doubted & truly believed that this was an impossible task to pull off, but they have managed to do it (for the most part). The recreations of places, people, & things that we have all fallen in love with over the years, whether it be on a page or on the screen, are impeccable. The little things go a long way. That is for the better & well, for the worse as well. There is an insane amount of dialogue that is repeated, the voice actors are voices of many other characters as well, but the worst part is that it is super obvious. At times, the world & school especially can feel bare with little to no students interacting with you or even each other, often leaving the npc's to feel lifeless. Another odd nitpick of mine is not being able to sleep in your dorm or even sit on a bench & take in the sights. This is especially strange considering the seating options available in the Room Of Requirements. All that being said, at the end of the day we don't care about a serviceable story at best, recycled dialogue, or even empty halls because what we all ever wanted to do was to be able to walk in them & live in its world. Final verdict: Buy it

Platform: PS5 Game version: PS5 digital deluxe Trophies: 64% - 32/46 Rating: (7) good ⚪⚪🟢⚪ Over 60 hours on the clock. Hogwarts is created with an astounding attention to detail and brought to life in a way the movies never could. The developers really outdid themselves with the castle. It's one of the most impressive locations I've ever visited in a video game. I've also spent hours in the Room of Requirement and the Vivariums. Hogsmeade deserves every bit of praise as well. The various book references and easter eggs found throughout the world feel naturally placed. Pretty strong main cast. The story is completely separated from the original novels which is great, but it's still one of the weakest parts of the game and the writing gets lousy at times. The combat is surprisingly good, but most enemies are total pushovers and the game's pretty easy even on hard. Playing the quests while below the recommended level offers some challenge, but none of the quests are difficult. The open world is filled with quests, puzzles, challenges and collectibles—trying to complete all of them in a single playthrough is likely to get extremely tiresome and repetitive. Overall my experience has been mostly positive and I've played it almost daily for over a month. I can't imagine why a fan of the series wouldn't like Hogwarts Legacy. A half-assed fan-service cash crab would've been so easy to make, but the developers managed to create a game that feels unique and authentic. Hate or love Rowling, Hogwarts Legacy proves it's possible to expand the Wizarding world successfully without her. Whatever issues she might have with certain minorities, the game handles those themes extremely tastefully. I don't think the Wizarding world has ever been this diverse. I'm completely unable to feel guilty for enjoying this work of art and entertainment. Gameplay complaints: - There's no timetable (the player is free to do anything they like) so Hogwarts doesn't feel like the SCHOOL it's in the books. I wish there was a "school-mode" to experience living in Hogwarts as an actual student. - Teachers are interesting and well-written, but classes are very short and learning new spells is too easy. - RPG elements could be deeper. - Not enough enemy types and the existing ones feel too samey. - The pause menu map is pretty bad, clunky to use and tracking quests doesn't always work properly. - Four spell sets isn't enough / the D-pad controls need an overhaul. - Very loot-heavy so gear slots fill up fast. No "sell all" option. - Some short cutscenes (e.g. Merlin trials) are unskippable. - Ignatia Wildsmith and Deek, shut up! Way too many repeated comments that should be patched asap. Immersion nitpicks: - No dynamic HUD. - Character creator is disappointingly limited. - NPCs rarely interact with the player in any way. Don't mind me casting Alohomora on your front door and stealing your money and clothes! - Some not-so-great/forced voice acting, especially a few students. - The player character becomes this incredible mob-slaying wunderkind the whole school knows only after a few classes. Am I not supposed to be a 5th year student? I'm a worse Mary Sue and teachers' pet than Harry ever was! - Hogwarts doesn't seem to have any enforced penalties for breaking rules, at least not for the player character. - The town houses (and even school bathrooms) are almost always empty. Literally no one ever sleeps at night, everyone just disappears. - Can't sit down, eat and chat in the Great Hall. - Some graphical glitches/pop-in and fps drops on PS5 performance mode.

The biggest disappointment of this year.. Exploring the Harry Potter's lore, world on the broom (with slow pacing) it just became annoying. Character's personalities are boring, your character has only one feature - they are the chosen one and they discover their power of ancient magic! To learn a spell you should do tasks (they are ordinary and mundane) and thats all!! One advantage - atmosphere and opportunity to see how Harry Potter's world looks like on the map and in 3D. I suppose that my expectation was to high but it still didnt worth this hype and it's so overrated.

The first 5 hours are seriously awesome, especially for Harry Potter fans, but the novelty runs off after those initial hours and leaves a strong sense of open world déjà-vu. Combat is fun yet a bit simplistic, exploration is great especially within Hogwarts but also loses steam after the first handful of bandit camps, graphics and a few environments are gorgeous but nothing I haven't seen in other games before (ie Death Stranding). Overall a pretty solid experience, but a very common one in line with the generic open world games we've been getting for the last few years.
