Summary

Beyond the reach of civilization lies a lawless island ruled by violence. This is where you find yourself stranded, caught in a bloody conflict between the island’s psychotic warlords and indigenous rebels. Struggling to survive, your only hope of escape is through the muzzle of a gun. Discover the island’s dark secrets and take the fight to the enemy; improvise and use your environment to your advantage; and outwit its cast of ruthless, deranged inhabitants. Beware the beauty and mystery of this island of insanity… Where nothing is what is seems, you’ll need more than luck to escape alive.

slide 1 to 4 of 6
"Did I ever tell you the definition of insanity?"

Says Vaas who steals the show who's one of the best villains in gaming. Unpredictable, intense, and unforgettable, he brings chaos and depth to the island. And then there's Jason Brody who starts as a typical tourist, caught in a nightmare, but as the island tests him, you watch his transformation from a scared kid into someone who can’t afford to be weak. It’s a gritty, powerful evolution that really drives the narrative.

The gameplay is peak in the first act, tight, action-packed, and constantly pushing you to explore. The world feels alive and dangerous, with every mission keeping you on the edge of your seat. The island itself becomes another character, making every step you take feel meaningful.

The second act? Slows down. The fire’s gone, the momentum fades. Feels like you’re trudging through mud, waiting for the next spark.

But the last act? That hits like a freight train. It’s the kind of finale that makes the whole ride worth it. The second act may drag, but the last act? It’ll punch you right in the gut and make you remember why you started the journey in the first place.

This is the game to start the Far Cry franchise. It’s chaotic, it’s messy, and it’s got everything that makes this series stand out. If you’re new to it, don’t waste time.this is where you dive in.

This is the only Far Cry game that I've ever played and honestly I don't see what the hype is all about .

The best farcry ever.

Easily the best Far Cry. It set the bar high and I didn't enjoy the others nearly as much, with the exception of Blood Dragon.

Easily one of the best video games made by Ubisoft, providing an excellent narrative with memorable, larger-than-life characters and, at the time, a unique open-world experience.

Visuals still hold up quite well. Tropical island environments are beautiful but not that varied. Trips do provide some interesting abstract visuals and manage to spice things up, but they are few and far between.

Gameplay is fun and satisfying; guns are punchy and satisfying to use; takedowns are brutal; healing animations are creative and memorable.

Characters, although none of Jason's friends and family you need to rescue, are pretty memorable, Vaas and Hoyt easily being the highlights. The narrative is cleverly written with a lot of symbolism and parallels between the protagonist and Vaas.

Open-world activities are somewhat lacking, though not a lot of things to do after cleaning up the map of outposts besides poker; thankfully, there is a "reset outposts" feature. Side missions are mostly mediocre, with standard NPC character models looking pretty dreadful. I have also played a lot of now-defunct multiplayer and co-op modes, the former being much more fun than the latter.

To sum up, Far Cry 3 is still the best and most enjoyable Far Cry entry. It's a fun Ubisoft open world with an actually clever narrative of a man unleashing his inner beast filled with symbolism; thanks to that, it stands high among most titles released by Ubisoft.
