Summary

Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Battle 22 gives you 22 playable characters, each with an arsenal of unique moves, kicks, spins, slashes, and specialties, an additional five bonus characters can be unlocked with one command, including Master Roshi, Kid Goku, Super Saiyan 3 Goku, Vegeto, and Mr. Hercule Satan.

Growing up as a kid with a PS1 this game was the first ever Dragon Ball game I ever played. Yes it is known for it not being as good as I wished it was. Never the less I had some great memories with it. (Not trynna be biased since i eat any dragon ball content up.) It had so many of my favourite characters and not to mention the game was very arcadey. As much as Dragon Ball games have evolved this was the best they could do that time period.

Yes it has its flaws like the lack of Story, the botchy game mechanics but I never cared...it's Dragon Ball like come on now 🫡 What truly made me fall in love with this game that I can't say for many games, is the soundtrack theme especially on the selection menu???!?!?! Like come on whoever composed that better have been paid COINNNNNS cause they had no business snapping that hard. As for my main characters...definitely Gotenks, Majin Buu and Android 18. Love love love playing as them. Although playing as 18 can be challenging because she can't recharge like all the others can. Which makes her gameplay more fun and challenging. Plus she's the only girl in the roster...like what's up with that, where's my girl videl!!!

Aside from my biases I disagree with the negativity this game receives. I'm delulu like that.

A classic old school fighter. Street Fighter meets Dragon Ball Z, with a number of timeless characters, this fighter has a lot of kick and bang for your buck, but may not be the most in-depth fighting game out there. Some characters feel a bit flat, but the roster size was decent for its time. Audio lacks somewhat and once you've tried out every combination of vs matches, there is little else to do. Fun for a night with friends, but not something that will last you long. It's got a place in the nostalgia center of many people's childhoods. More solid and refined than the DBZ PS1 fighter, Final Bout, but far from the best DBZ game out there. Don't expect this game to feel like DBZ, it's more of a simple, classic fighter with a DBZ skin.
