Summary

The Ancient Gods picks up after the end of the main story in a time where, due to the Slayer's actions, the armies of heaven and hell have fallen out of balance. The demons have flooded in to overtake the weakened angelic realm, so the Slayer's been called in to clean up the mess.

For (what I'm guessing) whats to be a build up to part Two, DOOM Eternal: The Ancient God's Part One is a great little DLC.

Its got a alright story connecting to the base game, a good Villian that's been built up since Doom 2016 (altho a terrible boss fight). And some new enemies that make u wanna tear u eyes out cuz they could NOT HAVE MADE THEM MORE ANNOYING

These Enemines are the Spirit, and Blood Maykr. The Spirit is a Ghostly demon that can posses other demon's making them stronger, and way more agressive...oh and they can tank BFG shots cuz why not. Once you kill the demon it posses, the Spirit will try to find a new host, so make sure u got ur plasma rifle- or in this case Vaccum- and SUCK IT AND BLOW IT UP before it posses something new. The Blood Maykr...the hell...it is invincble until it attacks, once it does u can shoot it with your AR's scoopp mode to shot and kill it...if u hit it, cuz these things have a smaller hit window box than the file size of the OG DOOM.

This DLC took about 3 or 4 hours and I 100% completed it...I feel no joy, mainly Cuz of how TERRIBLE the end fight is. I don't wanna get into too much detail, just know both the Spirit and Blood Maykr play VERY IMPORTANT ROLES...and the boss...is a coward who runs almost everytime u look at him...wasn't...wasn't fun...nor good design...

I...if u beat the base game...its not a bad DLC and I'm hopeing part 2 makes it worth playing......but......standalone...its not great? The main big points this dlc gets is its gameplay and music, which altho the music is new, its still DOOM so its basiclly the same. And the gameplay is just DOOM Eternals amazing gameplay.

I feel like I ripped on this a lot, it was still fun, obviously hence the rating, but I also hated every living second I played this.....*sigh* uh....reccomend...but...prepare a 2nd controller if u have rage issues...Praise God I don't.

I recommend to play on nightmare to get beat experience

insane difficulty(stupid, unideal addition of souls) + shitty soundtrack + level design. I completed the original game on nightmare and gave it 10/10, its perfect, but this peace of shit is crazy. During the passage, it seems as if the game was made by completely different developers. Most of all, I didn't like the primitive level design, which tries to squeeze out the screen time that has to be spent trying to pass one zone or another because of the fucking spirits that barely die even after they come out of the demon. It's a pity that the DLC for this greatest game of all time turned out to be so bad, I hope the second part will be much more interesting.

Should've reviewed this before I played part two, but I remember it being a blast.

This first part of two DLC expansions really does a good job at taking preexisting gameplay and adding more mechanics. I thought the reveal of Samuel being the Seraphim and Vega being The Father were nice twists and that Internguy takes their place as Doomguys' assistant. The gameplay is 10x more intense and fast than the main game and waists 0 seconds to throw all kinds of stuff at you. Even if Mick Gordon left ID, Andrew Hulshult and David Levy did a really great job with the soundtrack. I like the new environments from the demonic bogs of the Blood Swamps to the demon-infested Holt, they have even more challenging platforming and puzzles. The game also introduces 3 new enemies where some could really ruin your day if you're not careful. Also, the final boss is really something. If you like more Doom then you should immediately get this.
