I was like staring down the barrel of a loaded question:
Do I keep going?or do I let the weight of its flaws take me under?

The puzzles? A cruel joke.
The platforming? A nightmare.
And the story? like a bad soap opera with demons.

But the combat kept my finger on the trigger. Stylish, relentless, a ballet of blades that made me forget just how much I hated everything else.
The boss fights were a bright spot, a storm of chaos I didn’t mind riding into.

Still, when the smoke cleared, the fun couldn’t mask the cracks in the foundation. I survived it, but I didn’t enjoy the journey. A beautiful mess, but a mess all the same.

Hot take, this is my favorite Devil May Cry game, liked it even more than DMC3.Loved the combat, movesets, story, character designs, and soundtrack.Story was great,my personal favorite out of all others. There are 20 chapters in the game, you start as a new protagonist Nero for most of the game, then you play as everyone's favorite Dante.By far the peak character design for him.Time has come has to be one of the best songs that get your blood going.Nero's moveset is probably my favorite in all DMC franchise, loved his devil bringer mixed with Yamato sword.I would say that DMC4 got the most replay value as well. You can play the main game with Nero/Dante,whole game as Vergil, and even Mary/Trish.All of them have 2 costumes, and additional if you have DLC,I liked it for most part.Luckily most puzzles aren't that difficult to figure out,so no complaints from me.I don't like farming orbs, but it's much better to just use Cheat Engine and use all abilities for swords. There are a lot of devil'arms like Rebellion,Gilgamesh and Lucifer for Dante and Red queen, guns, yamato and devil bringer for Nero.I quess I'm gonna check out later to see what others uses.I like how this game have multiple difficulty options,it makes it more acessable for all players,I've beaten the game on devil hunter(normal)difficulty.Enemy variety was good as well, even random encounters don't feel boring or repetitive.Without a doubt my favorite DMC so far, looking forward to DMC5.

P.S. Happy New Year everyone

Devil May Cry is potentially the best character action series on the market, and this entry is no exception to it.

With a new protagonist introduced, Capcom was aiming to reintroduce the series to a bigger audience with Nero having a more tight and simple gameplay style, which I do enjoy quite a lot, although Dante does also return as a playable character with a more fleshed-out and expanded move set, so it does satisfy both casuals and long-term fans alike.

Visually the game aged like fine wine, with a great environment variety. The soundtrack is still excellent, making every fight exhilarating.

What concerns the narrative, it is sadly less compelling than DMC3, but I do still consider it to be quite good and memorable. The elephant in the room is obviously what the game does halfway through, basically requiring the player to go through the same journey done by then and fight the same bosses yet again, with, to be fair, some changes done to spice it up. In retrospect, it is rather disappointing that this was done potentially to cut some corners, but the charm Dante is exuding during every cutscene is entertaining and iconic at times, making the track not be as exhausting as it could have been.

The special edition added three new playable characters, with Vergil being the highlight. It's a nice addition, but the fact that those campaigns are basically you playing the entire campaigns again with the same characters for both journeys sadly exacerbates the unfinished feel this game has.

Besides that, DMC4 is a great entry that I can easily recommend for character action fans, which, to be fair, we don't really have that many games like this, so there's no reason to hold off.

Camera location is so annoying.
and the new characters has no special missions like DMC you just run the same 20 missions with all 3 new characters which it's a bummer.
