Welcome to the zombie apocalypse experience of a lifetime – and now more beautiful than ever. Caught in the midst of an epic zombie outbreak on the tropical island of Banoi, your only thought is: Survive!
The island of Banoi is a lush, tropical paradise in the South Pacific where its flagship Royal Palms Resort serves as the ultimate getaway for vacationers with money to burn. However, all good things must soon come to an end - and the picturesque resort falls into madness, carnage and chaos after a mysterious and contagious zombie outbreak claims its once peaceful atmosphere. Cut off from the rest of the world, only four individuals who strangely find themselves immune to zombification have the power to protect the remaining survivors from the horrors of the island, to discover what's really going on and find a way to escape before their own fatal ends.

The Definitive Edition has a noticeable graphical upgrade, both concerning environmental detail and character models, of both ally and zombie variety, making it still hold up quite well; take note, it is still sadly in 30 fps.
Gameplay is just OK, not punchy enough, but it gets the job done; special abilities unique to every character do spice things up and provide replayability; special infected gradually appear throughout the campaign and provide some challenge. Enemies do have good-looking gore and dismemberment that makes killing zombies satisfying, but not as impressive as Dead Island 2 has. Crafting and weapon modifications are included, but nothing unique, mostly to provide additional damage and passive effects to enemies. It's, of course, good to have such a system, but weapon durability can get annoying during the early part of the game.
The narrative is uninspired and forgettable, just a standard zombie apocalypse affair. The environment is great, but mostly during the first half of the game, before you leave the holiday resort/beaches and go deep into civilian areas, which get less interesting to explore.
To sum up, there are much better options if you want to play a zombie-killing video game, most notably Dying Light, but at the always dirt-cheap price this game is being sold for, I do believe it's a solid enough experience to try out; with friends in co-op, it makes the experience even better.
