Summary

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords is a multiplayer game in the Zelda series originally released together with The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past for the Game Boy Advance. The game has many features not seen in the series and it requires at least two people to play and uses randomly generated dungeons. During the game, players must collect as many Ruppees as possible while solving puzzles and defeating enemies. When enough Ruppees are collected, the Great Fairy will give the players a key to open the unlockable level. At the end of each level, the one who collects the most Ruppees will be the winner.

Weak story + weak gamplay = bad game.

Four Swords is a game that MOST be played in Multiplayer. While in the GBA version multiplayer is the only option, in the DS version you can play single-player. It's nice to have the option but I can't see this game being enjoyable in Single Player. Playing the game with four other people is a blast, the chaos of four people with also 4 times the brain power to solve puzzles or to overthink sections for 20 minutes is both entertaining and hilarious. There were moments when one of us could be in trouble or on fire and we would all rush to try to help them, only for all of us to get caught on fire too. The game is short but the levels are randomized to incentivize replayability, this however hurts the game. The game is ridiculously short and there's no reason to replay levels since the only collectibles are Rupees which are only used for revives, you can't use them to buy items or unlock new areas. I would've preferred if there were more levels and fewer rogue-like elements. Because the rogue-like elements of areas and items being random are still cool, it's just too short to enjoy it all. Plus if you didn't have enough Rupees to revive you'd be kicked out of the level, so entering back will show a different layout making you lose on many puzzles of the game. There are various items we barely saw like Bombs and Boomerangs due to the randomized layouts. It's a shame we couldn't use all the items frequently. My favorite ones were Roc's Cape, since I could use it to jump over puzzles and the added movement options were great, and Gnat Hat, which didn't affect much of the gameplay but it led to many funny moments with my friends.
The enemies and bosses are sadly a blur. Playing with 4 other people makes it so you don't concentrate much on the game, so many enemies are just quickly forgotten by 1 or 2 sword swipes.
We didn't pay attention to the story either, we just quickly jumped right into the game. That's not the fault of the game we were just impatient due to all the chaos of four people playing at the same time.

Well now to give my Pros and Cons:

Cons
- Extremely Short, can be beaten in one sitting.
- Randomised layouts will make it so you won't see some puzzles and items again.

Pros
+ Chaotically fun multiplayer.
+ Every level felt fresh. I wish they did the randomized layouts better because I still enjoyed some aspects.

Short review for a short game! Thanks for reading my personal opinion!

A link to the past.
