Summary

Explore Cyrodiil like never before with stunning new visuals and refined gameplay in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.

The feeling I felt seeing this game being announced yesterday and playing it today is the same feeling R.Kelly feels when he gets on a school bus.🧍🏻‍♂️

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is a new version of the fourth game in the Elder Scrolls series. The game still contains the charms and flaws of the original. This game played a formative part of my love for video games, along with Fallout 3, and I got lost in its world many times. Playing this through again I had many flashbacks to long summer game sessions exploring nooks and crannies for treasure and romping through the world, fooling around.

For this remaster, a fresh coat of paint and some new voices add freshness. The game is very true to its original form (horse armor as dlc and all), and plays and sounds very similar. The updated visuals do a lot of work here, while the gameplay itself feels dated. Skyrim feels like it had a lot more charm to the world and dungeons, and more character, and that is saying a lot as a Betheada joint. The gameplay here was fun and nostalgic, but got stale pretty fast, as the caves, dungeons and Oblivion Gates blur together due to the copy and paste layout. Combat feels dull as well - thwack thwack, and on higher difficulties, spamming potions or running away casting heal spells.

As the review shows, this game was a gem, like Daggerfall was a gem, but playing this today feels like reading a classic novel. It is important, but feels like it belongs in an earlier time. Still love it, but for what it was, and that is just a memory.

Anybody ever run into the bug where Count Janus Hassildor of Skingrad just disappears never to be seen again which makes it so you can't finish several quests that involve talking to him? if so, anybody know of a solution to that bug? I looked everywhere, posted to the subreddit, even emailed Bethesda directly and all I get is "reload a previous save" which would set me back at least 50 hours so that is not an option at this point. He's not in his room either apparently he's in the chamber of the lost which is inaccessible outside of one quest.

Shot in the dark, but if anybody happens to see this and ran into the same problem and figured out how to reach him, please let me know.

Anyways, this game is like fucking crack to me. I put 100 hours into already and it's only been 2 weeks since it released. That's what makes it even more upsetting that I can't even finish this mage guild quest line without making a new character, but I digress.

Some bugs are cute and charming, some are absolutely game breaking. Unfortunately I've experienced alot of both.

PLEASE TODD....Remake Morrowind, Fallout 3, & New Vegas next. I need more.
