Summary

On the planet Dahna, reverence has always been given to Rena--the planet in the sky--as a land of the righteous and divine. Stories handed down for generations became truth and masked reality for the people of Dahna. For 300 years, Rena has ruled over Dahna, pillaging the planet of its resources and stripping people of their dignity and freedom. Our tale begins with two people, born on different worlds, each looking to change their fate and create a new future. Featuring a diverse cast of characters, intuitive and rewarding combat system, and a captivating story set in a lush world worth fighting for, Tales of Arise delivers a first-class JRPG experience.

Last Jrpg i played before this one was Persona 5 and I decided to never play this genre again as I was really bored by end of P5, however once I saw tales of arise on sale.. I decided to give it a try especially since the combat looked cool, below are the pros and cons:

Pros:

• Great combat system that is engaging and stayed fresh for the whole game, you can play with 6 different characters and each one has a unique play style with a ton of different combos.

• Dark story that starts pretty well and a with great realistic characters that you can understand and relate with.

Cons:

• Second half of the story pacing is terrible and has way too many cutscenes and skits, speaking of Skits they were overdone and there is really no need to have 300+ skits in 50 hours game.

• Bosses and some big late game enemies have way too much hp and you can’t combo them, so you end up spamming the highest damage arts for 10 minutes straight to kill them.. really made the encounters tedious.

Overall good experience but I expected much more.

Overall this was a decent game but there was way too much talking throughout and I found myself rushing to get to the end.

Starts strong but goes for way too long and becomes a slog to finish. The story was interesting enough for me to keep going but paying attention to all of the dialogue in all of the cutscenes was a challenge that I failed spectacularly (I may or may not have fallen asleep during a cutscene more than once 😴). Why does everyone have to talk so much?
I loved the relationship between the cursed girl who causes pain to whoever touches her and the cursed boy who doesn't feel pain, and I kind of wish the entire story was about those two characters overthrowing slavery together but this is a JRPG so of course they also have to kill god to stop the apocalypse at the end 😮‍💨. Everything that happened after defeating the slave lords was unnecessary and confusing.
Combat is mostly fun although it becomes a grind later on, especially during the final dungeon which was super tedious. Presentation is amazing. The graphics look like a trailer for a fake game that was never released except this is real. One might even say it's UNREAL 😉 (I hate myself)!
Anyways, I liked Tales of Arise but if it was like 20 hours shorter than I would've loved it.
