Streets of Rage 4

This isn't an overly complicated game to talk about. It's a really short and fun experience. I played this in co-op, and although we finished it in 1 sitting (around 2 hours), we had a great time. In terms of gameplay, it's simple, but has a certain level of complexity. Not saying that it's hard, but it takes some practice to master for sure. This being short allows the difficulty curve to be incredible. On normal, it starts off pretty easy, but slowly gets harder and harder, while still 100% doable. Only died once on the final level in the entire playthrough. The visuals are really beautiful here, giving it a retro feel while looking like a modern day game. You start off with 4 playable characters, all of which feel extremely different and definitely offer different playstyles, all feeling great and having their pros and cons. Then 1 extra character gets unlocked with story progression, alongside 3 extra unlockable characters based on your scores during your playthroughs. The locked characters add another layer to the replayability, as you can replay this game for higher scores or mastery of each character. Only thing I wish was added was some sort of level up system for the characters, as it would add to the replayability of quite a short game immensely. But still, this is an extremely well built game and an amazing time. Due to its shortness, it's almost impossible for it to be a masterpiece, but in terms of quality, it's incredible and definitely worth the money.

Always enjoyed this series, and this is a great Modern beat-em-up! If you are a fan of the original Streets of Rage games for the Genesis, you will feel right at home playing this. 🙂
