It's a good remaster of the original Sonic CD I think.
The original game was, in my opinion, even better than Sonic 2 (in particular because it was more forgiving) and maybe one of the first Sonic games I truthfully enjoyed, despite the Special Stages still being a real pain. Loved the animations for the opening and ending, and also liked the game music.
One shame was the time limit set at 10 minutes - levels are so big and full of things that it's just a shame to force the player to speedrun them.

So much better than 1.

It's a fine passable 2D Sonic, but the level design here is atrocious. I guess this happened because of the time travel mechanics that requires more exploring. In reality this makes a regular playthrough fall flat if you're not trying to go for any particular ending. The music here is peak though.

This game dared to ask, "what if sonic 1 was a good game."

A game that is mostly held up by it's music and style.
I personally do not like the more exploration focused gameplay of this game. And the Time Travel doesn't add much aside from cool music if you're simply going for the time stones rather than the robot generators.
