Sonic Adventure 2

Overrated as fuck imo

Well...I don't even know where to start with this one.After playing Generations and SA1,I was really into Sonic franchise.Going into this one I had high expectations since this one is the most belowed Sonic game of all time.Even I was thinking that Adventure 2 was gonna be a peak of the franchise,and I ended up feeling so dissapointed.It's like there was a godd game in there somewhere,but I wasn't able to find enjoyment anywhere.Don't think for the second I hate the game or anything,it was such a mixed bag for me.Every time I try to find something positive about the game,there is always a counter that I personally didn't like.The game is a 3D person platformer,with added variety of gameplay,which itself had a lot of flaws.You can play a Hero story which have you play as Sonic,Knuckles,Tails,and Dark story where you play as Eggman for the first time,Rouge the Bat and my favorite character from the entire franchise Shadow.Sonic and Shadow levels are definetly a highlight,a lot of care went into their styles of speed and power.Big problem is side characters didn't get the same treatment.Both Eggman and Tails participate in shooting missions which can get repetitive real fast,although I'm glad they made Eggman a little bit relevant,since he was only used as a punching bag for team sonic.Rouge and Knuckles have good boss fights,but why they decided to bring back one of the worst gameplay mechanics,searching for emeralds.That shit was one of the biggest waste of time I ever did in both Adventure games,so boring and uninteresting.Boss fights were suprisingly good for most part,but platforming was a chore later on.Problem I have with going through stages especially later on in both stories,is camera issue.The amount of time I fell for no reason,unrensponsive controls,imagine trying your best to reach the end and you are just a couple steps away from finishing the mission,and some shennigan happens,you gotta start over.I was fighting the camera angles the whole time,not level design,and that's shame,because it was well designed.In Dark story since stage 11,it becomes frustrating,and Hero you are gonna rage hard when chapter 13 and forward hits.The amount of rage boiling inside while I played those later levels,it made me think that I don't want to play this game ever again.Characters were much better done in previous entry,all of the main cast had depth,soundtracks that fit their personalities,while here side characters feel like they are just there,attention was only given to Sonic and Shadow.Shadow is anti hero type of character,and the reason why I like him so much is because of the backstory,and moveset seems like better version of Sonic.I'm definetly looking forward to his spinoff from 2005.Soundtrack was also a downgrade.Outside of Live and Learn,there are no memorable songs like in first Adventure game.There are some pretty good levels that appear in Generations as well,City Escape being my favorite.Every character gets their own abilities as you go through levels,and it usually gets you through when nessecary.Story was good,but so messy,all over the place,especially when you have to piece together the order how it goes.Final act,I thought it was gonna fix a rating abit,instead so many things didn't make sense,Biolizard being the final boss was dumb,he just shows out of nowhere and doesn't make a single apperance outside of final chapter.Boss fight was alright,but just because Live&Learn plays,it's not a masterpiece!And ending where Shadow dies,they kill him off just to bring him back in following games.So death scene didn't mean anything.Guys the way people praise this game,I expected a 9 or 10/10 experience.I expected to have fun whole way through.Instead I got one of the most frustrating broken mess of a game,payed 4,99$ on Steam and still feel ripped off.The amount of swearing I did,raging,smashing my hand on desk,smashing controller,didn't rage like this even in FromSoftware games.I might want to give 2P a shot,since you can drive mini kart which looks clunky,horrible physics and not even fun for a whacky races.There are also minigames,you can do time attack stuff,because I know who won't.Such a mixed bag of a game,definetly not feeling like replaying this any time soon,because of this game,I'm taking a hiatus from Sonic franchise,won't touch it in a while.Based on how many people praise this,there is only 1 thing to say about Sonic Adventure 2...OVERRATED AS FUCK!!!

the ONLY 3D sonic game

HAHAHA is this a joke I'm not in on or something. Nothing about this feels real. The slow as fuck knuckles levels, the fact the audio is mixed by a dog with one leg, the constant talking over each other, the lack of a proper lock on button for sonic. All of it was a masterpiece comedy from start to finish every cutscene has some hilarious shit in it that doesn't make a lick of sense which unfortunately extends to the gameplay where it's almost unfun. The jank can add to the comedy factor at times but eventually it just becomes frustrating. I will be playing this again. I'm so conflicted.

this game is my childhood, I freaking love it, I really wish it gets a remake or a remaster at some point.

"Sonic adventure 2 is a huge improvement from the first one but how does it look like in 2022? The story getting way more complex than the first one but the first one was something else... simpler event but better character development
I have same exact feeling about sounds track too . but in visual aspect SA2 is way more better than first one and doesn't feel annoying way of old graphic at all . gameplay getting improvement too but some of mechanics doesn't works well and makes you mad A LOT . if it wasn't that way SA2 gameplay was superior than first one but with those problem I rather to play simpler gameplay like first one Instead of complex broken one "
