Summary

Rain World is a survival platformer set in an abandoned industrial environment ravaged by a shattered ecosystem. Bone-crushingly intense rains pound the surface, making life as we know it almost impossible. The creatures in this world hibernate most of the time, but in the few brief dry periods they go out in search of food.

There is a cult following for this game online where you might see reviews talking about how glorious and unique this game is...

Welp I'm glad they enjoyed it, because I did not what so ever. There is nothing wrong when a game requires you to explore it's mechanics or doesn't provide you with much to go off of. This game does that but doesn't provide any drive for the players to move through it's brutalness. The environmental danger and enemy design seems like a really cool idea, but the game lacks any motivating factor to explore its systems.

This is why I personally don't like games like satisfactory. A totally different experience than rain world that faces a similar problem. I find the lack of drive behind doing actions in a game to feel unrewarding and kind of a waste of time.

This game is going to be for a very niche group of people because of its "nature is brutal and we are replicating that" elevator pitch.

One of the most frustrating games I've ever played. I'll admit it's quite gorgeous. Still wouldn't recommend. Not fun at all. Never have I played sunch an aimless and confusing game.

The idea appeals to me but it didn't grab me after playing for over an hour. Progress is too opaque and the areas too similar. It's frustrating trying to progress and looping back to the same room several times.

Maybe one day I'll be more in the mood for a slow paced Metroidvania and I'll come back. But for now, I had to pass on it.
