Persona 2: Innocent Sin is a Japanese role-playing video game developed and released by Atlus It is the second entry in the Persona series and acts as a sequel to the original Persona. The original version was not localized for western territories, but the PSP version was released in North America and Europe under the title Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 2: Innocent Sin. Innocent Sin takes place in the fictional Sumaru City, focusing on a group of high school students from Seven Sisters High School. The main protagonist, Tatsuya Suou, and a group of friends must confront a villainous figure called the Joker, who is causing the spread of reality-warping rumors through the city. The group are aided in their quest by their Personas, personified aspects of their personalities. The gameplay features turn-based battle gameplay, where characters use their Personas in battle against demons, and a separate Rumor system, where rumors spread around the city can influence events in the characters' favor.

Persona 2 is the weakest in the series so far for me in the story standards,persona stories aren’t really that great to begin with ,with most of the weight being pulled from other sources like the time management,dungeon crawling and social links but since none of that was implemented at this point and the dungeon crawling was the biggest burden, the story had to pull much more weight than usual which it didn’t.
there’s a lot of tomfoolery going on,the first half was interesting with its slow buildup and the 2nd half crumbled what little groundwork it had built so far with so many bad villains and confusing plottwists.
The gameplay was really annoying with the infamous random encounters being spammed every 5 seconds,and this is no exaggeration.
this is what drove me aways from playing p2 for so long but thankfully i found cheats to prevent those spammy encounters but couldn’t contain myself and just ended up using every cheat in the book,like upgrading my party to lv 99 immediately,robbing myself of the experience in the process,which i dont regret,but it’s hard to really talk about the gameplay much but id say its pretty solid apart from the random encounters.
The only part persona 2 really outshines is in the characters like it has been for every entry,eikichi and maya are amazing,and they’re just as cool as any other persona party,but in every other way persona 2 falls flat.

Most of what I would say about Persona 2 is already mentioned in my Persona 1 review so I would recommend reading that.
However it is worth noting that Persona 2 has some gameplay improvements and the story is still an absolute fever dream
