I personally didn't enjoy excessively backtracking through a claustrophobic labyrinth with a confusing, mostly unhelpful holographic map and no clear direction (there is no way to leave markers at points of interest - I just had to memorise everything) while battling/slowly running away from frequently respawning enemies. I didn't like how sparse and easy to miss the checkpoints were, and I really despised the barely functional half-pipe sections…
But I still kinda like this game. Maybe I've been gaslit into thinking this game is good by all the glowing reviews and by my love for Metroid Dread. Maybe I have a case of Stockholm Syndrome.
I guess I did have a good time when I wasn't completely lost. I appreciated how cool it felt to be Samus in her hulking suit of armour and it was especially cool when I could see the reflection of her cold stare after exploding an enemy at point blank range.
The continuous stream of cool upgrades kept my dopamine levels just high enough to keep me playing, as did the cute little Zelda sound effect when I solved a puzzle. And the combat was interesting - this is probably the most unique first-person shooter I've ever played.
With all that being said, I'm keen to move on to something less stressful and frustrating, such as playing Russian Roulette with a fully loaded revolver.
