My introduction into the well renowned series of metal gear solid. After beating the first game, I have to say I get the hype around the franchise. Now the first game is well, old. The graphics are obviously nothing to write home about, but I do enjoy the charm that surrounds playing something that looked like the best from the time it was made in. Now the gameplay is a little crude I will say, but I still think overall it's actually really fun and mostly intuitive for a ps1 game. I did use a guide because quite frankly as a 19 year old I did not grow up in that era of games and I would have thrown my playstation out the window very quickly without a guide. Now don't take that out of context, it's not hard or unfair, and you can beat this with enough patience and effort and immerse yourself in the game, but I just don't have that discipline. The gameplay although basic and crude, just has a feeling about it. I died and yet wanted to get back and try to beat it properly. Theres an aura surrounding this game. Also nothing wrong with using a guide especially for a game like this where the story is incredible. Some story beats are pure fantasy and I love the quirkyness of it all, but to me at its roots the best story aspects are the military/espionage/intelligence ones. The story twists and turns and leaves you wondering until the absolute end, even until after the credits where my jaw dropped. Amazing start so far. Side note for vr missions, start with this, it's technically it's own game, it's good, but it's just a tech demo. Now being done the second game, to not have this be the length of the Bible I'll try to compare it to the first game. The graphics are obviously ten times better, it being a ps2 game now. The gameplay is mostly the same, I once again used a guide, only thing I'd mention here is that it feels like there's a lot less as it's a lot more cutscenes. Now going into the story, man it's insane. This game takes it to a whole other scale. I can't even begin to try and explain what makes it so great, but I will talk about the pacing. It gives so little and yet so much at the same time. You feel like you know everything, then something happens, you feel like you know everything again and it's a cycle. Then the last 20% of the game flips everything upside down, spins it 180 and turns it inside out. Anytime you've seen someone glaze kojima and these games, know this, they're right. Alright now for 3, first thing, the title song for this game is majestic, I love it. As for the graphics, the change of style makes the graphics look better, but I'm not the biggest fan of the jungle setting for the artistic style, because gameplay and story wise it's cool. Now the gameplay is definitely the best here in the series, but I'm still not the craziest for it. Now the story, which is the meat of the mgs franchise. Being a prequel, it's hard for it to tie in much with 2, and the standalone story is good, but it's struggles to connect to the previous games makes most of the game in the middle just feel like a spinoff almost. But the ending is really jam packed. Not only does snake eater get it's proper ending, but it connects to the series as well in a less grandiose way, but still super impactfull and shocking. It's still a great game no doubt, but it's definitely it's best in it's last act. My advice to people who want to get into the series, play this. Use a guide and play on easy and you'll be more than fine. Even if this isn't your preferred game style, trust me the narrative here is just next level and I cannot wait for volume 2

great collection that brought some MGS games to the current gen and it’s by far the best and easiest way to experience those amazing MGS games.
Can’t wait for the Vol.2 that will bring the rest of the series to modern consoles!

Get this if you’re thinking about getting into the franchise and don’t have time to troubleshoot emulators.

It’s not as bad as people say; in fact, I’m pretty satisfied with the overall quality, a decent experience.

The best games in the series in the same collection.

Even though the launch of the game was pretty shit, Konami is honestly improving on the collection and releasing updates constantly
