Summary

Kingdom Hearts III is the third main installment in the Kingdom Hearts series developed and published by Square Enix. It was initially released January 2019 for the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. An expansion, Kingdom Hearts III Re Mind was released in January 2020. The story takes place after the events of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. It features an older Sora as the main protagonist, who sets forth on a new adventure to search for seven guardians of light in an attempt to stop Xehanort from bringing about a second Keyblade War. Sora is joined by Donald Duck, Goofy, Mickey Mouse, Riku, Kairi, and others. Along the way, Sora travels to many worlds from Disney and Pixar intellectual properties, and cross paths with the real Organization XIII. Kingdom Hearts III features hack and slash combat reminiscent of Kingdom Hearts II, with elements from later handheld entries, allowing the player to control Sora in a party with Donald, Goofy, and up to two other Disney characters from the various worlds he visits. A major addition compared is the Formchange mechanic, which allows his currently equipped Keyblade to grant him special abilities and change shape. Sora can equip up to three Keyblades at a time, and cycle between them to use his abilities. Another addition is the Attractions mechanic, which occasionally allows Sora to summon and pilot a vehicle inspired by Disney theme park attractions. At certain points throughout the game, the player will be able to control other characters.

I wanted to love this game, really tried but it doesn’t feel like a 2019 game, really long introduction, the cutscenes are long and boring and most of them are have no point of existing, and it just can’t show patches of enemies just like normal games would nah there need to have a cutscene for it and when you eliminate them all cringe slow motion and stupid white screen appears, like come on this feels like we are in ps2 era, very repetitive gameplay, couldn’t keep playing.

A Magical Journey Beyond Expectation

As the final chapter in the beloved Kingdom Hearts saga, Kingdom Hearts 3 delivers an enchanting experience that transcends age and expectations. From the moment I stepped into the whimsical worlds, I was captivated by its blend of Disney magic and Square Enix storytelling.

Having played the previous titles, I was already invested in Sora's journey. But this installment took me to new heights. Revisiting iconic Disney locales like Arendelle, San Fransokyo, and Toy Box felt like stepping into childhood memories. Yet, the game didn't shy away from introducing fresh, original worlds that seamlessly fit into the universe.

The combat system is a symphony of fluidity and spectacle. Sora wields the Keyblade with finesse, and the addition of Attraction Flow and Keyblade Transformations adds layers of excitement. Battles against the Heartless, Nobodies, and Unversed are a dazzling dance of magic and steel.

The narrative tugs at heartstrings. Themes of friendship, sacrifice, and light versus darkness resonate deeply. The reunion of characters like Donald, Goofy, and Riku feels like reuniting with old friends. And don't get me started on the tear-jerking moments involving Aqua, Ventus, and Terra.

The graphics are a feast for the eyes. Whether sailing the high seas with Captain Jack Sparrow or soaring through the skies with Baymax, every detail is meticulously crafted. The Disney characters look straight out of their animated films, and the original characters blend seamlessly.

The music, composed by the legendary Yoko Shimomura, is a character in itself. From the iconic Dearly Beloved to the adrenaline-pumping battle themes, the score elevates every moment. And let's not forget the emotional impact of "Don't Think Twice" during the credits.

At first glance, I thought it would be a game for kids only. Kingdom Hearts 3 shattered my preconceptions. It’s not just for kids; It's not just for kids; it's for anyone who craves adventure, magic, and a touch of nostalgia. So, if you're ready to wield the Keyblade, battle alongside Disney heroes, and unlock the secrets of the heart, dive into this enchanting universe. You won't be disappointed.

*Note: My initial skepticism was unfounded. Kingdom Hearts 3 is a gem that sparkles across galaxies.* ✨🗝️

I’m excited for the sequel, and I hope they bring all the classical and new worlds of Disney too.

These games are either for you or they're not. I just didn't get it.

This game has some serious Final Fantasy XV syndrome. A long and arduous development cycle which ended up with a very messy and unfinished initial experience. Re:Mind added some great things to this game, but not enough to save it.

A great way to end the Xehanort series but the game is also hindered by it's Disney content. Where the past games (KH2 specifically) did well to expand on the stories in each world, here it felt like the Disney worlds were just put in to check a box. The attraction attacks were more tedious than fun and I had wished for the return of drive forms with the keyblade transformations. (I know that technically there are drive form type keyblade transformations but it didn't hit the same). When the story got away from the Disney worlds, it felt epic and exciting, reminding me why I love this series so much.
