Summary

"Gears of War: Judgment" takes you back before events of the original "Gears of War" trilogy to the immediate aftermath of Emergence Day - the defining event of the "Gears of War" universe. Follow Kilo Squad, led by Damon Baird and Augustus "The Cole Train" Cole, as they fight to save the city of Halvo Bay from an unstoppable enemy in the most intense 'Gears' game yet.

I understand why players didn't like this as much as the others. I enjoyed it, two fan favourite characters back, Cole and Baird. Sofia is my favourite new character, cool to see Paduk as well.

I like that Gears of War Judgement tells the story from four different perspectives. With the narration of events, it added freshness changing it up from Gears of War 3. Cutscenes are cool as well, quite cinematic.

With that said. Considering this is a prequel, the change in tone from a 'dark and gritty' setting, to a more colourful one felt out of place. However, it does look good with auto HDR and 60fps on Series X.

I disliked that this also altered some mechanics from the previous three games. It was easy to adjust, but it felt less like the other Gears of War games. It works, but it feels unnecessary.

The 'declassified' missions are a lot of fun. Some of them are good while others are just annoying. Each has pros and cons, they add challenge, but they also make the game feel 'mission based' instead of the usual 'Chapters and story Acts.'

Earning '40 stars' unlocks an hour long side story called 'Aftermath' which is set during Gears of War, a side story serving as a sixth chapter for Gears of War Judgement, a really cool addition.

Final Verdict: Anyone reading, has most likely played this already. If you haven't I recommend, the Gears of War games are brilliant. It's not the fan favourite, however it's still a Gears of War title that has more good than bad.

I love Baird, he might even be my favorite Gears character, but this game feels more like Halo than Gears, lots of changes, changed protagonist, changed singular plot to two plots, changed controls, added challenges, not very compelling story with character we don't know (except Cole of course). In summary, not very good, oh and also, multiplayer became human v human instead of human v locust

It's a different experience than the main games, but it's still very enjoyable and the story is a great addition to the series
