Microsoft studio games :Look good. Play bored

Short, thrilling and interesting to the end. However, much is left unexplained.

The mechanics and progression are on point, and much can be accomplished by planning and positioning, as no one becomes a sponge even at the end (yourself included).

The lack of clarity throughout the game and the ending conclusion are most likely by design, but still feels like it could have explored its backstory, its theme so much more. The characters are very fleshed out, however.

Really tight, comprehensive campaign that doesn’t outstay it’s welcome. Fantastic art direction, and gameplay is a welcome departure from Dishonored series. Must for fans of the genre – won’t persuade anyone that isn’t though.

I liked the puzzles, exploration and sneaking, so in a sense Deathloop felt like a spiritual successor to Dishonored. The loop system was well-designed and there was enough freedom to make a build that matched my playstyle. Deathloop never felt too easy nor unfair. Once I figured out the big puzzle I finished the game on the second try. The story was alright, but I kind of tuned out at some point. I wasn't a big fan of the constant bickering between Colt and Juliana, but I'll admit the acting was good.

Overall, not as engaging as the Dishonored series or Prey. Deathloop could've been a rock-solid first-person shooter, but it's held down by dumb enemy AI, similar/bland maps and frustrating bugs. There was one that prevented me from exiting the menu. I had to restart the game three times which reset my progress. Another one didn't let me infuse my gear. Even without the bugs the menu UI was funky. Sneaking would've been more fun if the enemy aggro hadn't been so inconsistent. So more often than not, I felt like I had to give up sneaking and just go guns blazing. Matchmaking took a while so I only played as Juliana a few times.

Arkane has been getting dunked on a lot since Redfall, which I didn’t and won’t play. For me their downfall started here. I truly don’t get all the good reviews. 4 small levels with minor variations that you play over and over again with very little interaction, incredibly annoying characters and writing, boring and simple shooting and an invasion-style multiplayer mode that adds nothing.
